When your Nothing Phone (3) won't send texts, it can be incredibly frustrating. You might see a message stuck on "Sending," get a failure notification, or notice nothing happens at all. Let's get your messages flowing again.
Restart Your Phone First
This is the simplest fix for most temporary glitches. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons together for about 10 to 15 seconds. Release them when you see the Nothing logo appear on the screen. This force restart can clear up any software hiccups affecting your messaging app.
Check Your Mobile Data and Signal
Texts (SMS) need a cellular signal, and picture messages (MMS) require mobile data. Look at the top of your screen. If you have no signal bars or your mobile data icon is missing, you won't be able to send. Try toggling Airplane Mode on and off from the Quick Settings panel to refresh your connection to the network.
You can also try switching between 4G and 5G. Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Preferred network type. Changing this setting can sometimes resolve a weak or unstable data connection that's blocking MMS.
Verify Your Default Messaging App
Nothing OS lets you choose your default SMS app. If you've installed another messaging app, it might not be set correctly. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS app. Make sure your preferred app, like Google Messages or the Nothing SMS app, is selected here.
Clear the Messaging App's Cache
A corrupted cache can cause sending failures. Open Settings > Apps, then find and tap your messaging app (e.g., Google Messages). Go to Storage & cache and tap Clear cache. This deletes temporary files without touching your message history.
Check Your APN Settings
Incorrect Access Point Name (APN) settings are a common culprit for MMS failures. These settings tell your phone how to connect to your carrier's data network. You can find them in Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Access Point Names.
Compare the settings there with the correct ones from your mobile carrier's website. If anything is off, you may need to add a new APN profile with the correct details. I'd recommend getting the exact settings directly from your carrier's support page.
Update Your Software and Carrier Services
Outdated software can have bugs that break messaging. Go to Settings > System > System update to check for the latest Nothing OS update. Also, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device > Manage > Updates available.
Look for updates to "Carrier Services" and your messaging app. Installing these ensures you have the latest compatibility fixes from both Nothing and your network provider.
Reset Your Network Settings
This is a more thorough step for persistent network-related issues. It will erase all your saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and cellular settings. Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.
Confirm the reset. After your phone reboots, you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices, but it often resolves deep-seated connection problems that stop texts from sending.
Check for Blocked Numbers
If you can't send messages to one specific contact, you might have blocked them accidentally. Open your Phone app, tap the three-dot menu, and go to Settings > Blocked numbers. See if the person's number is listed there and unblock it if necessary.
Contact Your Mobile Carrier
If you've tried everything and texts still won't go through, the issue might be on your carrier's end. There could be a service outage in your area, a problem with your account provisioning, or SMS/MMS might be disabled on your plan. A quick call to their customer support can confirm if the issue is on their network.
