Next Year's iPhone 16 Pro Models Rumored to Feature Periscope Telephoto Camera and Larger Main Sensor

As the rumor mill continues to churn, Apple enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the potential advancements and enhancements that the iPhone 16 Pro models might bring to the table..

According to a recent report, next year's iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to undergo significant upgrades, including the addition of a periscope telephoto camera and a 12% larger main camera sensor.

The rumor originated from a user on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, claiming to possess insider information from the industry. This aligns with previous reports suggesting that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models will feature larger displays. The source asserts that the increased size of the devices will create additional internal space, allowing for the inclusion of a periscope telephoto camera system. Earlier today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also mentioned that the larger size of the iPhone 16 Pro models might facilitate improvements in camera hardware or accommodate larger internal batteries.

While the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to introduce the iPhone's first periscope telephoto camera, the feature will initially be exclusive to Apple's largest iPhone. However, with the iPhone 16 Pro models, Apple reportedly plans to bring the telephoto camera to both "Pro" models. Thus, the increased size of the iPhone 16 Pro is partly attributed to the need for more internal space to incorporate the periscope camera on the smaller Pro model.

For the iPhone 16 Pro Max or "Ultra," the additional internal space will allegedly accommodate a larger main camera sensor measuring 1/1.14-inches. In comparison, the current iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a 1/1.28-inch sensor. It is worth noting that no sensor size increase is expected for this year's iPhone 15 Pro Max. The claim gains support from "ShrimpApplePro," a reputable leaker on Twitter.

A larger sensor in the main iPhone camera could lead to improvements in dynamic range and background blur. Furthermore, it has the potential to significantly enhance low-light photography capabilities by capturing more light with the same shutter speed and aperture, thanks to the increased surface area.

As the rumor mill continues to churn, Apple enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the potential advancements and enhancements that the iPhone 16 Pro models might bring to the table.
