Xbox Insiders can now disable Quick Resume for individual games through a new "Manage Quick Resume" option in the console's latest update. The feature arrives more than five years after the Xbox Series X|S launched with Quick Resume as a headline capability.
Microsoft announced the update today for users enrolled in its testing program. A new checkbox appears when selecting "More Options" on any game tile, letting players turn off Quick Resume specifically for titles where it causes problems.
Quick Resume saves game states in memory when switching between applications or powering down the console. While revolutionary for single-player experiences, it creates issues with online multiplayer titles that require fresh connections each session.
Games like Minecraft and other live-service titles often face extended reconnection times when resuming from suspension.
Former Xbox community manager Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb said he first requested this functionality five years ago while still employed by Microsoft. The community has echoed similar feedback since the Series X|S launched in 2020.
The update includes several other interface improvements alongside Quick Resume management. Users gain expanded Groups organization on their home screens, allowing more customization for game libraries. Custom background colors arrive through new sliders in system settings, and achievement badges display more prominently in player profiles.
Xbox Insiders receive these features first before they roll out to all console owners through standard monthly updates. Microsoft hasn't specified when general availability will begin, but testing typically lasts several weeks before public release.
