Top Hat Studios and developer Kyle Thompson have set the dark fairy-tale metroidvania Well Dweller for a September 22, 2026 release across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The Switch and PC versions were announced earlier, following the game's initial reveal during the Nintendo Indie World showcase, and the PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch 2 editions now share that same launch date.
Players take on the role of Glimmer, a tiny bird armed with a matchstick who must burn the wicked queen and save his family before they become part of her royal gown. The adventure unfolds through a whimsical but morbid fairy-tale landscape filled with beasts, secrets, and new abilities to unlock, plus trinkets that upgrade and customize gameplay.
Well Dweller will also be available with Xbox Game Pass on day one, giving members access to the full game at release on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.
The native Switch 2 edition will feature higher-resolution graphics and enhanced texture quality.
Thompson previously created the metroidvanias Crypt Custodian and Islets. Well Dweller is his latest game in the genre, this time set in a wretched queendom where a cast of charming characters try to make their own way through the Queen's twisted world.
The developer has also released the first public demo for Well Dweller on Steam, giving PC players a chance to try the game before the September launch. The game arrives in a crowded September, with a number of big titles clustered in the same month.
