The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced a collaboration with Microsoft today to develop prototype AI agents for higher education. The partnership will leverage Microsoft Azure and cloud AI capabilities to research agentic AI applications across the UAE's academic ecosystem.
Four specialized AI agents form the core of the initiative.
The Lifelong Learning and Skills Progression agent focuses on career navigation through in-demand skills pathways. Faculty Enablement and Course Co-Creation tools help educators update curricula and design courses with industry input.
Student Personalised Learning agents provide adaptive support for individual pacing, while Research Mission Alignment systems connect academic work to national priorities. Each prototype targets specific educational challenges identified by UAE officials.
Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar stated the ministry's commitment to strengthening the UAE's position as a global innovation hub.
"Partnerships like this collaboration with Microsoft reflect our commitment by deepening engagement across the higher education ecosystem," he said.
Microsoft UAE General Manager Amr Kamel described agentic AI as transformative for public sector education. The technology enables dynamic, personalized learning experiences while driving operational efficiencies across academic institutions.
This follows Microsoft's recent focus on enhancing AI reliability features across its product ecosystem.
The collaboration includes participatory design involving faculty, students, and industry representatives. MoHESR and Microsoft will explore additional technical collaboration in data analytics, machine learning, and AI applications beyond the initial prototypes.
For the UAE, adopting agentic AI in education aims to empower both students and educators in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Officials position the initiative as preparing future generations for leadership in a knowledge-based economy.
