Sony is breaking its usual playbook for the June 2 State of Play. The company announced the event more than two weeks in advance, a departure from its typical short-notice cadence, signaling this isn't a standard firmware update and indie sizzle reel.

The livestream runs over 60 minutes and opens with Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games. Sony confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that the segment will feature Logan's "brutal and relentless combat" alongside new details on the third-person action-adventure title. The game locks in a September 15 PS5 release date.

Beyond Wolverine, the broadcast promises "updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from top studios around the world." That opens the door for Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which has been quiet since its reveal. Insiders have also pointed to a God of War spinoff featuring Faye as the protagonist, potentially surfacing at the presentation.

Third-party speculation centers on Grand Theft Auto 6. The company reportedly holds a marketing deal with Rockstar Games, and a new trailer has been conspicuously absent for months. PlayStation showcases are "as much about third-party reveals as anything else," making a GTA 6 appearance plausible.

Sony is also hosting in-person watch parties at Alamo Drafthouse locations in Raleigh, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, and New York City. Tickets are free, marking the first time PlayStation has organized live theater viewings for the event.

The broadcast goes live June 2 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET on YouTube and Twitch with Japanese subtitles available. It lands at the front of a packed week: Summer Game Fest follows on June 5, with the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.

The company also recently raised PS Plus subscription prices, a move that adds pressure to deliver a lineup that justifies the cost increase. The State of Play will be its first major test of whether the content pipeline can match the pricing ambition.
