Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is closing in on the nearly invisible display crease of the OPPO Find N6, according to prolific leaker Ice Universe, who claims the company has made a late-stage breakthrough on foldable screen quality.
The tipster's revised assessment marks a sharp reversal from earlier this month, when they posted that the Z Fold 8's crease "doesn't improve much." Ice Universe now says the "last new version has significantly improved the crease," matching the "Zero-Feel Crease" that OPPO achieved on the Find N6 through a high-resolution 3D printing process that fills uneven gaps under the display.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are expected to feature Samsung Display's crease-less OLED panel, which the company accidentally revealed at CES 2026 earlier this year. Samsung Display did not confirm the tech would ship in consumer devices this generation. The naming structure itself is shifting. Ice Universe confirmed that the wider, passport-style foldable previously referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will launch simply as the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra badge, a decision the leaker says was "made only recently." The wide model reportedly features just two rear cameras and a 4,800mAh battery. The timing puts Samsung's foldables on a collision course with Apple's first foldable phone, rumored to be called iPhone Ultra. Tom's Guide reports that the display crease has been a "real sticking point" for Apple, which planned to use a crease-free display as a key selling point.
Multiple sources note that Samsung Display developed the crease-free panel for the iPhone Fold as well, but legal agreements would prevent that design from appearing on Galaxy devices.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Z Fold 8 series alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22 in London, per Android Headlines.
