Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip8 will ship with the Exynos 2600 in Europe and South Korea while every other market gets a Snapdragon variant, a reversal of last year's all-Exynos strategy for the clamshell foldable. A report from Korean publication The Bell detailed the regional split. The Galaxy Z Fold8 and the new Z Fold Wide will use Snapdragon chips globally. The Flip8 is the only foldable getting a mixed-chip approach.

The reason comes down to cost. An insider from Samsung's MX division said the Flip series is "a product line where customers prioritize design and portability over top-tier performance.

Performance sensitivity is lower compared to the Fold series, so the burden of applying in-house APs is relatively lighter." That calculus matters because the Exynos 2600, built on Samsung Foundry's 2nm process with a new Heat Path Block cooling technology, didn't match the Snapdragon 8 Elite in Samsung's own Galaxy S26 review, particularly on battery life. But it costs less than Qualcomm's flagship chip, and Samsung's MX division is looking to protect margins amid rising RAM and flash memory prices. The chip swap also benefits Samsung's own silicon businesses. Both Samsung Foundry and System LSI reported losses last year, and shipping more Exynos units in the Flip8 could help push both divisions toward profitability this year.

Who gets what

Europe (including the UK) and South Korea get the 2nm Exynos 2600. North America, South America, Asia outside South Korea, and Australia get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.

Both variants are rumored to pack 12GB of RAM.

What stays the same

The Flip8 is otherwise a modest refresh. It keeps the same 4,300mAh battery, 25W wired and 15W wireless charging, and the 50MP+12MP rear and 10MP front camera setup from the Flip7.

Samsung promises a new hinge design for a less visible crease and a foldable OLED display, but screen size and battery capacity are unchanged.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip8, Z Fold8, and Z Fold Wide at its next Unpacked event on July 22. The same MX insider added that Samsung plans to expand Exynos usage further: "As prices for electronic components are rising across the board, the scope of Exynos application will expand further in new products scheduled for release next year."
