Samsung phones will soon respond to three wake phrases as the company adds Perplexity to its Galaxy AI platform at the system level. The new "Hey Plex" command joins existing "Hey Google" and "Hey Bixby" triggers on future flagship devices, marking a fundamental shift from single-assistant smartphones to what Samsung calls a multi-agent ecosystem.

Users can activate Perplexity by saying "Hey Plex" or holding the side button, bringing up the AI search engine without opening an app first. The integration goes beyond voice commands, embedding it directly into core applications including Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder, and Calendar along with select third-party apps.

Internal research reveals why this approach makes sense now: nearly 8 in 10 Galaxy users already rely on more than two AI agents depending on their task. One might handle research while another manages smart home controls or provides quick answers.

The company announced this expansion on February 22 through its global newsroom, positioning Galaxy AI as an orchestrator that brings multiple specialized AIs into a single experience.

Perplexity becomes the first confirmed partner in this multi-agent strategy, though Samsung hints more could follow. The search-focused AI will function as a system-level agent on upcoming flagship Galaxy devices rather than operating as a standalone application.

The move reflects how smartphone AI usage has evolved since Samsung introduced Galaxy AI alongside the S24 series in 2024. Users increasingly treat various AIs as specialized tools rather than expecting one assistant to handle everything competently.

Samsung has not officially specified which devices will support Perplexity integration first, saying only that details will come in a separate announcement soon.

The official announcement only mentions 'upcoming flagship Galaxy devices,' with industry reports suggesting the feature is expected to debut with the S26 series.
