Nintendo has announced that they're going to be shutting down some online features for the 3DS and Wii U in April 2024. But here's the twist: it seems like new users can't go online in any games on these consoles anymore. This started happening in late December 2023. So, if you try to play online with a new Nintendo account, you'll see error codes like 106-0303 on the Wii U and 006-0303 on the 3DS. Not cool, right?

According to a blog post on Pretendo, a reliable source for Nintendo Network news, new accounts can't link up with the servers anymore. This means if you try to play games online, you might run into error codes like 'Error code 106-0303' on the Wii U and 'Error Code 006-0303' on the 3DS. This basically means new accounts can't join the game servers.

Moreover, Super Mario Maker players have encountered 'Error Code 106-0502' since early December, although existing users are still able to connect to the game's servers. This disruption has left many players concerned about the future accessibility of online features on these platforms.

Surprisingly, it seems like Nintendo's plans to shut down online play for 3DS and Wii U are happening earlier than expected. This has caught a lot of players off guard, especially those looking to dive into original Splatoon or Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

It's important to note that this change is part of a "slow rollout" of Nintendo's plans for online service discontinuation. This change also follows the closure of the 3DS and Wii U eShops, so it looks like Nintendo is really shifting its online focus. But there's a glimmer of hope – a group called Pretendo is trying to find ways to bring back online play for these consoles. That could be a game-changer for fans who want to keep playing their favorite titles.
