Nintendo is closing out a weekend of rival showcases with a Direct that carries unusual weight. The company's release calendar for the rest of 2026 is nearly empty, Switch 2 prices have climbed, and a 95-minute Treehouse Live segment suggests Nintendo has more to show than just launch trailers.

The Direct airs June 9 at 10 AM ET / 7 AM PT, running roughly 50 minutes, followed immediately by a Nintendo Treehouse: Live stream clocking in at 95 minutes of gameplay demonstrations. Nintendo confirmed the event through its Nintendo Today app, promising games for both the original Switch and Switch 2. The timing is deliberate. Sony and Microsoft both held showcases over the weekend alongside Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, which featured reveals like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Nintendo held its announcement until the dust settled, positioning itself for an undivided audience. That audience is hungry for answers. Nintendo's first-party schedule currently lists Star Fox (June 25), Rhythm Heaven Groove (July 2), Splatoon Raiders (July 23), and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave with no fixed date.

Beyond that, the lineup is wide open. The Duskbloods, a FromSoftware-published multiplayer title, is still listed for 2026 but has been absent from every recent showcase. The biggest rumor circling tomorrow's Direct is a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Leaker NateTheHate, who accurately predicted the Star Fox Switch 2 remake a month before its reveal, has reported the project is real.

2026 marks the franchise's 40th anniversary, and a holiday release would fill the gaping hole in Nintendo's Q4 calendar. Multiple sources suggest an announcement is likely, though a short teaser rather than a playable demo is the more realistic expectation. The unusually long Treehouse segment is a tell. Nintendo typically reserves extended gameplay showcases for titles that need hands-on explanation.

Speculation points to Splatoon Raiders or a potential new 3D Mario as candidates, though insiders have cautioned that the next Mario platformer is not expected until 2027.

Nintendo also faces a pricing challenge. The company raised Switch 2 prices earlier this year, following broader industry trends. A stronger-than-usual holiday lineup is necessary to justify the higher cost of entry for the now more expensive console.

Whether that means a tentpole Zelda reveal, a surprise Mario appearance, or something altogether unexpected will be clear tomorrow at 10 AM ET.
