Nex Computer announced the NexPhone today, a $549 smartphone that runs Android 16, Linux, and Windows 11 in a single device. The phone is expected to ship in Q3 2026 and accepts $199 refundable reservations immediately.

The NexPhone marks the first smartphone in nearly a decade to offer Windows functionality, reviving the Windows Phone interface through a custom tile-based UI. Users can reboot between Android and Windows 11, while Linux runs as an app within Android for quick access.

Hardware specifications include a Qualcomm QCM6490 chipset, 12GB RAM, and 256GB storage with microSD expansion. The 6.58-inch 120Hz LCD display pairs with a 5,000mAh battery, wireless charging, and 5G connectivity. Camera configuration features a 64MP Sony IMX787 main sensor, 13MP ultrawide, and 10MP front-facing camera.

Nex Computer founder Emre Kosmaz described the device as a "14-year journey" to create one device that serves as both smartphone and desktop PC. The company previously developed the NexDock lapdock accessories for Samsung DeX and Microsoft Continuum systems.

When connected to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, the NexPhone transforms into a full Windows 11 PC or Linux desktop. Android's desktop mode also activates for productivity workflows. All three operating systems maintain separate partitions, with Android and Linux sharing file access.

The QCM6490 processor represents an unconventional choice, designed primarily for IoT applications rather than smartphones. Qualcomm guarantees support through 2036, providing long-term update stability. The same chip powered the 2023 Fairphone 5, where it delivered mid-range performance.

Rugged construction meets MIL-STD-810H military standards with IP68 and IP69K water and dust resistance. The dark gray polycarbonate body features a rubberized finish for grip durability.

Reservations require $199 upfront, applied toward the $549 final price. Shipping is expected to begin in Q3 2026 with remaining $350 due at delivery. Preorders include a USB-C dock for monitor connectivity.

The NexPhone enters a market previously explored by Samsung DeX, Microsoft Continuum, and early concepts like Motorola's Atrix laptop dock. Its success depends on whether users will accept performance compromises for triple-OS flexibility in a single pocket-sized device competing against mid-range smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy A57.
