Desktop windowing arrives on Pixel phones alongside AI-generated custom icons as Google's March Feature Drop begins rolling out today. The Android 16 QPR3 update delivers a desktop experience when connecting external monitors to Pixel 8 and newer devices, transforming smartphones into multi-window workstations.
Desktop windowing also reaches Pixel Tablets running Android 16 QPR3.
Pixel 6 through Pixel 10 series owners gain access to five AI-designed icon styles, Scribbles, Cookies, Easel, Treasure, and Stardust, that automatically redesign home screen aesthetics.
This visual customization arrives alongside functional upgrades including adjustable flashlight strength controls and the ability to finally remove At a Glance widgets from primary home screens.
Google's latest quarterly platform release patches 63 security vulnerabilities dated March 1 and another 66 from March 5, addressing issues ranging from high to critical severity. The update reaches every currently supported Pixel model except the newly launched Pixel 10a, which ships with QPR3 preinstalled.
Pixel 10 series devices (excluding the Pixel 10a) receive exclusive Comfort view technology that filters bright or saturated colors to reduce visual stimulation for sensitive users.
The Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL also gain Gemini automation capable of booking rides and ordering groceries through secure background processes that tap, scroll, and type within apps.
At a Glance widgets expand with real-time sports scores based on followed teams, end-of-day financial updates from Google Finance watchlists, and My Commute notifications about transit delays. Magic Cue now suggests restaurant searches during conversations when friends discuss dining options. The Connected Cameras feature extends support to DSLRs via USB cable connections on Pixel 6 and newer phones.
Several existing features expand geographically with this update. Call Notes becomes available in India on Pixel 10 devices while scam detection leveraging on-device AI arrives in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Germany, and Japan for Pixel 9 series owners.
Users can download the update through Settings > System > Software updates > System update on supported Pixel devices including the original Pixel Fold and all models from the Pixel 6 generation forward.
