Google's Gemini Spark lands on Mac with third-party app integrations, real-time tracking Google's 24/7 agentic AI assistant, Gemini Spark, arrived on macOS Wednesday, bringing local file automation and a wave of new integrations that position it as a direct challenger to Claude Desktop and Microsoft Copilot.
First previewed at I/O 2026 in May, Gemini Spark now lives inside the existing Gemini desktop app. After updating to version 1.80.15.516. Users get a dedicated "Spark" tab in the sidebar where they can grant the agent access to local folders.
Google says the assistant can organize files, build documents from local data, and handle complex workflows across Workspace apps.
"Gemini Spark also connects your desktop and Google Workspace, so you can simply ask it to create a budget spreadsheet using the latest invoices saved to your computer, and create a schedule to update it regularly," the company wrote. The macOS launch is the first of two major desktop updates planned this summer. A new voice experience is next.
Beyond file management, Google is expanding Spark's reach into third-party services. Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals integrations are rolling out over the coming weeks, letting the agent reserve tables, order groceries, design flyers, or book apartment tours.
Spark now also supports Google Tasks and Google Keep, addressing a gap early testers flagged when the service launched last month.
Gemini Spark can now track topics in real time, monitoring sports scores, stock movements, breaking news, social media, and weather. Google is also rolling out support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), letting users connect their own apps directly into Spark.
A future update will let users assign multi-step tasks from their phone that execute on their Mac. Google says this is "coming soon", a user could ask Spark to find a sales report on their computer, pull the revenue number, and email it, all while they are away.
Gemini Spark for macOS is in beta, available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. for $99 per month.
Users must be 18 or older. Google says the agent can only access files users explicitly grant permission to use, and connected folders can be unlinked at any time from the sidebar.
