Cygames Announces Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising for Switch 2 Launching September 17

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Lands on Switch 2 September 17 Alongside Massive 2.60 Update Cygames dropped a double announcement at EVO 2026 in Las Vegas this weekend: Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, and it's hitting day one with version 2.60, the game's biggest update yet. The Arc System Works-developed fighter launches on September 17, the same day the 2.60 patch goes live across all platforms. That means Switch 2 owners get the full package from jump, including every DLC character released to date.

Leading the update is Id, a new playable fighter pulled from Granblue Fantasy: Relink. He joins a roster that already includes the original 24-character Versus cast plus character pass additions like Lucilius, 2B, Vane, Beatrix, Versusia, and Vikala.

Version 2.60 also brings a fresh stage called Ainsteddo Archipelago, a new system mechanic, character balance adjustments, and additional costumes. The Switch 2 version supports local wireless multiplayer, a feature the PS5, PS4, and PC versions already offer online. It also includes the full story mode and Digital Figure Mode, meaning nothing from the original release is cut.

For newcomers, Rising's selling point is accessibility. The game lets players execute special moves with a single button press, lowering the barrier for fighting game beginners while keeping technical inputs for veterans.

Nintendo Insider described it as a "more enjoyable and accessible" experience than its predecessor. Rising originally launched on PS5, PS4, and Steam in December 2023. The Switch 2 port arrives digitally via the Nintendo eShop.

Cygames has not announced a physical release. The timing puts Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising in a strong September window for the Switch 2, which is also seeing Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition on September 3 and SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance on September 24. For a platform still building its fighting game library, Rising fills a visible gap.
