iPhone users frustrated by missed keystrokes and autocorrect failures in iOS 26 will get relief with an imminent software update. Apple's iOS 26.4 release candidate, seeded to developers and public beta testers on March 18, specifically targets a persistent keyboard bug that degraded typing accuracy during fast input.

The update delivers "improved keyboard accuracy when typing quickly," according to Apple's official release notes. This addresses a core issue where characters appeared visually tapped on screen but failed to register in text fields, particularly affecting users who type at higher speeds.

Missing keystrokes created cascading problems for Apple's autocorrect system. When characters were skipped entirely rather than mistyped, the prediction engine couldn't accurately determine user intent, leading to incorrect word suggestions and compounding frustration.

iPhone owners have documented their struggles across online forums including Reddit threads from last month, where complaints about deteriorating keyboard performance in iOS 26 accumulated. The bug manifested most noticeably during rapid typing sessions, undermining one of the iPhone's most fundamental interactions.

Apple quietly introduced the keyboard fix in earlier iOS 26.4 beta builds, with testers already reporting measurable improvements. The release candidate represents what could become the final public version if no critical issues emerge during this testing phase.

The software correction resolves a distinct problem separate from last year's viral video that purported to show iOS keyboard malfunctions. That demonstration involved swipe-to-type functionality without autocorrect enabled, displaying expected behavior rather than actual defects.

iOS 26.4 brings additional features beyond the keyboard fix, including Playlist Playground for AI-generated music suggestions in Apple Music, native video podcasting capabilities, new emoji characters including trombone, treasure chest, distorted face, hairy creature (Bigfoot), fight cloud, orca, and landslide icons, plus default-enabled Stolen Device Protection.

Public rollout is expected later this month following successful developer testing of the current release candidate build.
