Telegram is back on Apple’s App Store after Apple briefly removed the messaging app on Monday night, August 3, over child sexual abuse material found on the platform.
In a statement shared with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple said its review found Telegram violated the guidelines barring CSAM, and that it restored the app after the developer promptly removed the content and banned the user who posted it. Telegram said the app had been restored on the App Store and should soon be available again for all users.
While the listing was down, Reuters checks found the App Store page displaying a message that it could not be found.
Telegram pointed to its safety overview page, which states that the service blocks tens of thousands of groups and channels daily and removes millions of pieces of content that break its policies.
The episode echoes 2018, when Apple likewise pulled Telegram from the App Store over CSAM and restored it once the issue was addressed. This time the delisting lasted hours, and new downloads were blocked while the page was down.
