Amazon Pharmacy will dispense Novo Nordisk's Ozempic pill through in-office kiosks and same-day delivery to nearly 3,000 U.S. cities, the company announced Thursday, turning its healthcare logistics into a convenience play for the 36 million Americans with type 2 diabetes.
Patients with a prescription can pick up the oral GLP-1 medication within minutes at licensed pharmacist-supported kiosks in select One Medical locations, skipping traditional pharmacy lines. Amazon will also deliver the Ozempic pill same-day to about 3,000 cities and towns, expanding to 4,500 by year-end. The company invested over $4 billion last year to triple its delivery options in 2026, targeting small towns and rural areas.
Pricing starts at $25 per month with insurance. Cash-pay customers pay $149 monthly, with manufacturer-sponsored savings applied automatically at checkout. A One Medical subscription ($199 annually) is not required to use the kiosks.
"Amazon Pharmacy continues to provide customers expanded selection and reliable, convenient access to the latest treatments like the Ozempic pill for type 2 diabetes," said Tanvi Patel, a vice president at Amazon. "We are making it easy for customers to get the medication they need to stay healthy." The Ozempic pill is the only FDA-approved oral GLP-1 for type 2 diabetes. Novo's injectable Wegovy, which uses the same active ingredient semaglutide, has been available through Amazon since January. The company does not stock injectables in kiosks because they require refrigeration.
Amazon has delivered GLP-1 medications since 2021 and has saved customers more than $200 million through an automatic coupon savings program, with GLP-1s representing the largest savings category. The kiosks were originally designed to address access barriers for common drugs like antibiotics, blood pressure medicines and asthma inhalers, but are now expanding into high-demand GLP-1 treatments. The move follows Amazon's April announcement that it would stock Eli Lilly's Foundayo pill for weight loss. With both Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Lilly's Foundayo, Amazon's pharmacy is positioning itself as a one-stop GLP-1 provider spanning diabetes and obesity, delivered through a combination of same-day logistics and physical kiosks that rival traditional pharmacy wait times.
