Motorola has announced its latest addition to the affordable G series lineup, the Moto G Power 5G, with a release date of April 13. The new smartphone, priced at $299, is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, boasting notable hardware improvements.

One of the most impressive upgrades is the 6.5-inch display with a 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The higher refresh rate, which is rare for a phone in this price range, ensures smoother animations when browsing the web or using apps. For comparison, most phones in this price range top out at around 90Hz.

The Moto G Power 5G's front-facing camera has also been upgraded with a new 16-megapixel sensor, double the size of the 8-megapixel sensor on last year's model. This improvement is expected to enhance the quality of selfie photos and video chats. Additionally, the phone's main rear camera boasts a 50-megapixel resolution, with a 2-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portrait mode, the same as the previous model.

The phone will be available unlocked, meaning it can be used on any carrier, and comes in the color Mineral Black. It will also offer either 128GB or 256GB of storage space, a roomy capacity for a phone at this price point, with the option to expand up to 1TB with a microSD card. The Moto G Power 5G will be available in two RAM configurations of either 4GB or 6GB, depending on the model, and will feature stereo speakers, a headphone jack, and a 10W charger (max charging speed is 15 watts).

Although the Moto G Power 5G has added several notable hardware updates, these improvements have come at a cost. The new model is priced $100 higher than its predecessor, with a shorter battery life. Nevertheless, with its many upgraded features, the Moto G Power 5G looks set to be a strong contender in the budget smartphone market.
