On Thursday, Microsoft stated in a blog post that Windows 10 22H2 will be the final version of the operating system. All editions of Windows 10 will continue to receive monthly security updates until October 14th, 2025, at which point Microsoft will end support. Certain versions on the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) will receive updates past the support end date.

Microsoft is urging users to transition to Windows 11 because Windows 10 will no longer receive new features. Windows 11 was launched a year and a half ago, and it is not surprising that the company is beginning to wind things down for an operating system that was first released in 2015. The company took a significant step toward moving on by ceasing the sale of Windows 10 downloads in January.

The end of support for Windows 10 does not come as a surprise. Microsoft will provide users with at least four years of support from the date of its release. Windows 10 was released on July 29th, 2015, and support for the operating system was slated to end in 2020. However, in March of 2018, Microsoft announced that it would extend support for the Home, Pro, and Workstation versions of the operating system until October 14th, 2025.

Windows 11 was released with new features such as a redesigned Start menu, Snap Layouts, Snap Groups, and virtual desktops. It also has the ability to run Android apps through the Amazon Appstore. Windows 11 was designed to be a more refined and modern version of Windows, with an emphasis on touch screen and tablet functionality.

Windows 10 is still being used by over 1.3 billion people worldwide, making it the most widely used operating system globally. However, with Microsoft now ending support, users are encouraged to transition to the newer Windows 11 operating system for continued support and access to new features.
