Kobo Launches New 10.3-Inch E-Reader with Upgraded Stylus

Kobo is set to release its latest e-reader and writing device, the Kobo Elipsa 2E, on April 19th. Retailing for $399.99, the Elipsa 2E includes an upgraded stylus that allows users to write directly on the pages of ebooks and documents. Customers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia can preorder the device from Kobo starting today and receive a $25 Kobo e-gift card.
The Elipsa 2E boasts a glare-free 10.3-inch display, Bluetooth support, 32GB of storage, and cloud service integration. The device is also made from over 85 percent recycled plastic, with 10 percent from ocean plastic.
Additionally, Kobo has launched its own subscription service, Kobo Plus, granting access to over a million ebooks and hundreds of thousands of audiobooks starting at $7.99 per month.
The Kobo Elipsa 2E is a minor upgrade from its predecessor, the Kobo Elipsa. Both e-readers sell for $399 bundled with a stylus. However, only the original Elipsa comes with an included cover. The two e-readers also offer 10.3-inch glare-free displays with built-in tech to minimize blue light exposure, along with Bluetooth support.
The eraser is now located on the back, making it more intuitive to use. Annotations will now always be visible, even if users change settings like font size or page layout.
Like the new Kobo Clara 2E, the Kobo Elipsa 2E is also more eco-friendly as a part of Kobo's larger goal to reduce its environmental footprint. The device is now made from over 85 percent recycled plastic, with 10 percent from ocean plastic. Meanwhile, the new Kobo Elipsa 2E SleepCover, which puts the e-reader to sleep when closed, is made from over 97 percent recycled plastic.
Kobo also announced the launch of its own take on Amazon's Kindle Unlimited, the Kobo Plus service, in the US today. The subscription grants members access to over a million ebooks and hundreds of thousands of audiobooks starting at $7.99 per month.
Overall, the Kobo Elipsa 2E seems to be an impressive e-reader and writing device with a number of upgrades and improvements that should provide users with a better and more intuitive experience.
