It's Official - Elon Musk is Most Followed Person on Twitter

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of multiple companies, has dethroned former President Barack Obama as the most followed person on Twitter. According to their respective Twitter profiles, as of today, Musk has 133,068,709 followers, while Obama has 133,042,819, putting Musk ahead by a narrow margin.

Musk's recent acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion is likely a contributing factor to his skyrocketing follower count, as he hit 100 million followers in June of last year, and has continued to grow his following in the months since.

Although Musk is known for posting random and sometimes controversial memes, he also uses his Twitter account to communicate changes to the platform and has polled followers on major decisions such as allowing former President Donald Trump back onto the platform and whether or not Musk should step down as CEO of Twitter.

In contrast, Obama mainly uses his Twitter account for professional purposes, such as promoting important causes and highlighting his work as president. Other celebrities like Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, who occupy the third and fourth most-followed spots, respectively, also use their accounts primarily for personal and professional branding purposes.

Musk's rise to the top of the Twitter follower ranks is a testament to the power of social media in the modern era and highlights the potential influence of public figures in shaping discourse and public opinion online.
