When your Huawei Pura 70 Pro starts rebooting on its own, it pulls you out of whatever you're doing. This can happen for a few reasons, often tied to the unique software environment of EMUI 14.2 or an app you've installed. The good news is you can usually sort it out yourself.
Before you start, it's a smart move to back up your data. You can use Huawei's built-in backup to a computer or their cloud service. This protects your photos, messages, and settings just in case.
Perform a Force Restart
This is almost always the first thing to try. A force restart clears out temporary glitches in the system memory that can cause random reboots. For the Pura 70 Pro, it's straightforward.
Just press and hold the power button on the side for about 10 seconds. Keep holding it until you see the Huawei logo appear on the screen, then you can let go. The phone will boot up normally. This takes about 30 seconds total and doesn't delete any of your personal data.
Check for App Conflicts
Since the Pura 70 Pro doesn't have Google Play Services, many apps are sourced from the Huawei AppGallery or third-party stores. Sometimes, an app from an unofficial source can be poorly optimized or contain bugs that crash the system.
Think about when the restarts began. Did you install a new app just before? Try uninstalling that app first. If you're not sure, boot into Safe Mode. Restart your phone and immediately press and hold the volume down button as it boots. You'll see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner.
If the phone is stable in Safe Mode, a third-party app is the likely culprit. Start by removing recently installed apps, or apps known for heavy background activity like certain social media or gaming apps downloaded outside the AppGallery.
Update Your Software and Apps
Running outdated software is a common trigger. Huawei releases EMUI updates to fix bugs and improve stability. To check, go to Settings > System & updates > Software update and tap "Check for updates."
Don't forget your apps, too. Open the Huawei AppGallery, tap on "Me" in the bottom corner, and go to Update management. Update all your apps from there. Keeping everything current helps avoid compatibility issues that can crash your phone.
Free Up Storage Space
When your phone's storage is critically full, the operating system doesn't have room to work properly. This can lead to all sorts of erratic behavior, including sudden restarts. It's a simple thing to check.
Head to Settings > Storage. Here, you'll see a breakdown of what's using space. EMUI will often provide cleanup suggestions. Pay attention to app caches, downloaded files, and large videos. Moving photos to Huawei Cloud or a computer can free up a significant amount of space quickly.
Review Battery and Charging Gear
The Pura 70 Pro supports incredibly fast charging, 100W wired and 80W wireless. However, using damaged cables, non-compliant chargers, or wireless pads that aren't compatible with Huawei's protocol can cause power delivery issues.
This unstable power can sometimes confuse the phone's management system, leading to a reboot. I'd start by trying the original 100W charger and cable that came in the box. If you must use wireless, ensure it's a charger that explicitly supports Huawei's high-wattage SuperCharge standard, not just basic Qi.
Reset All Settings
If the problem persists, a settings reset can help. This won't erase your photos, messages, or apps, but it will revert all your system preferences back to factory defaults. Things like Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and display settings will be cleared.
To do this, go to Settings > System & updates > Reset. Then, tap on Reset all settings. You'll need to enter your lock screen password to confirm. After the phone reboots, you'll have to reconfigure your preferences, but it often resolves deep-seated configuration conflicts.
Clear System Cache via Recovery
Over time, the system cache can become corrupted. Clearing it is a good intermediate step before a full factory reset. You'll need to boot into the phone's recovery mode.
First, power off your Pura 70 Pro completely. Then, press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button together. Release the buttons when you see the Huawei logo or the EMUI recovery screen. Use the volume buttons to navigate to the option that says "Wipe cache partition" and select it with the power button. Confirm, then select "Reboot system now."
Perform a Factory Reset
This is your major step to rule out a software issue. A factory reset will erase everything on your phone and return it to its original out-of-the-box state. This is why that initial backup is so crucial.
You can do this from within the settings if the phone is operational. Go to Settings > System & updates > Reset > Factory data reset. Read the warning carefully, enter your password, and confirm. The phone will take several minutes to reset and restart.
Consider Hardware and Regional Factors
If the phone continues to restart even after a factory reset, a hardware issue is possible. Before assuming the worst, consider the Pura 70 Pro's known quirks. The Kirin 9010 chipset is powerful, but in my experience, some early units had firmware that needed fine-tuning.
Also, limited 5G support in some regions can cause the modem to behave unpredictably. Try inserting your SIM into another phone to see if the issue follows the SIM. Finally, inspect the USB-C port for any lint or debris, as a short circuit there could cause a reboot. If all else fails, contacting Huawei support is the next logical step, as it could be related to the battery, motherboard, or other internal components.
