1. Close the apps

If you are done with an app, it is essential to properly close it by tapping on the back button several times until you see the Start screen. If you don’t do this, and if you just switch from one app to another, the app you previously used will keep running in the background which will affect the battery life.

2.Block the apps to stop them from running in the background

You can prevent the apps and their processes from running in the background by blocking them. To do this, go to Settings > Application settings > Background tasks, go through the listed apps, and when you find the ones you wish to prevent from running in the background, tap on the app and click Block.

3. Reduce the screen brightness level

To make the battery last longer, it is advisable to reduce the screen brightness level. Navigate to Settings, tap on brightness, turn off “automatically adjust” option and choose one of the levels.

4. Use dark background

On Windows phones, you can choose the background, and if you want to improve the battery life and make it last longer, you should use the dark background. To do that, go to Settings, tap on “theme”, tap on “background” and choose dark.

5. Turn off Automatic phone updating

Disabling this option is a battery saver, and we should point out that once you turn off automatic phone updating, you will be notified when the update is available, and you won’t miss anything important. But, the updates won’t be installed automatically. Go to Settings, tap System, tap Phone updates and then uncheck the option “Automatically download updates if my data settings allow it”.

6. Disable Automatic backups

While this may be a handy option, it can have a huge impact on the battery, so you need to decide what is more important to you – automatic backups or the battery life. If you want to disable automatic backups, go to Settings, tap System, tap Backup > App list + settings and then turn off all the options you find there.

7. Disable Tap + send

Nokia Lumia 920 comes with some great features, and tap + send is one of them. To use this feature, you need to tap two phones together, and you can easily share a photo. While it’s handy, how often do you actually use it? To turn it off, navigate to Settings > System > tap + send and disable it.

8. Turn off Wi-Fi, Mobile data, GPS and Bluetooth when not in use

If you are not using or need mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or GPS at the moment, turn them off. You need a few seconds of your time for this, and it can really make a difference. When you need any of these services, turn them back on.

These are some general tips that will help you to improve the battery life on your Nokia Lumia 920.
