Xfinity Stream on Roku usually breaks in one of a few ways: the app will not open, activation loops, in-home errors, buffering, missing channels, or playback failures. Start with the fast Roku and network fixes, then move through app, account, and Xfinity service checks until the stream works again.

Restart Roku and Your Home Network

The most common cause is a stuck Roku, app, or network session that needs a clean restart.

Press Home on the Roku remote, then open Settings, System, Power, and System restart. If Power does not appear, open System restart from System.

If the Roku menu is frozen, unplug the Roku power cable for at least 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

Restart the modem and router next. Unplug both devices, wait about 15 seconds, plug in the modem first, plug in the router second, then start Roku after the network returns.

Update Roku and Xfinity Stream

This fixes crashes, loading failures, and playback problems caused by old Roku software or an old app build. Press Home on the Roku remote, open Settings, and select System. Choose Software update, then select Check Now and let Roku install available system and app updates.

To update only Xfinity Stream, press Home and highlight Xfinity Stream. Press the Star button, then select Check for Updates. After the update finishes, open Xfinity Stream again.

Confirm Your Roku Is Supported

Xfinity Stream requires Roku OS 11.0 or later, and the channel appears only on eligible Roku devices. Press Home, then open Settings, System, and About to check the Roku model, OS version, and build.

Compare those details with Xfinity’s Roku requirements. Xfinity says it stopped updating Xfinity Stream on 2017 Roku devices in October 2022.

If this method fails, reinstall Xfinity Stream from the Roku Store and run Settings, System, System update, and Check now.

Reinstall the Xfinity Stream App

Press Home on the Roku remote, highlight Xfinity Stream, and press the Star button. Select Remove app and confirm, then return to Home.

Open Store, select Apps, and search for Xfinity Stream. Select Add app.

If the app was added from Roku.com or the Roku Channel Store but does not appear on Roku, open Settings, System, System update, and Check now.

Remove Xfinity Stream from the Roku Home screen or the Roku mobile app, since Roku.com does not remove apps from devices.

Activate the App Again

This fixes sign-in loops, stale sessions, wrong-account problems, and Roku devices that need to be linked again.

Open Xfinity Stream on Roku and select Sign In. On a phone, tablet, or computer, go to xfinity.com/authorize, then enter the six-digit code shown on the Roku screen.

Sign in with your Xfinity ID and password, then wait for the Success! message. On Roku, accept Terms of Activation with Yes, name the device, and select Confirm.

Fix In-Home Wi-Fi and TVAPP-00101 Errors

Connect Roku to your in-home Xfinity Wi-Fi network. Do not use the xfinitywifi or XFINITY hotspot network for in-home-only content.

Turn off any VPN before opening Xfinity Stream. Exit Xfinity Stream and open it again.

If you have more than one linked Xfinity account, go to customer.xfinity.com/settings/account/linked-accounts and sign in. Choose the account used for Roku, then select Make This Primary.

For TVAPP-00101 that remains after those checks, contact Xfinity with the Roku connected to the home Xfinity network.

Check Roku Wi-Fi Strength

Weak Wi-Fi makes Xfinity Stream buffer, fail to load, or drop out during playback. Press Home, then open Settings, Network, and About to confirm the Roku is connected and check signal strength.

Select Check connection. If signal strength shows Poor or Fair, move the Roku and router closer, remove obstructions, keep both devices out of cabinets, re-orient router antennas, and elevate the devices.

For Roku streaming sticks hidden behind a TV, use Roku’s HDMI extender. Switch to 5 GHz Wi-Fi when the Roku supports it, change the router channel, or use Ethernet when the Roku model or adapter supports it.

If this method fails, reset the Roku network connection from Home, Settings, Advanced system settings, Network connection reset, and Reset connection, then set up Wi-Fi again.

Check Storage, PIN, and Guest Mode

Use these checks when Roku shows Not enough memory, Can’t run app, or Insufficient memory, blocks app installation with a PIN, or keeps removing apps and sign-ins.

To free storage, press Home, highlight apps you do not need, press Star, choose Remove app, and confirm. Restart Roku, then open Xfinity Stream again.

If adding Xfinity Stream is blocked by a PIN, sign in at my.roku.com. Open Device settings, then open PIN/Parental controls. Change the app-adding PIN setting, or choose Don’t require a PIN. Select Save.

If Roku is in Guest Mode, open Settings, Guest Options, and Sign out and clear info. Enter the Roku PIN and press OK. Guest Mode also appears as Auto Sign Out on some Roku OS versions.

Look for Xfinity Service or Content Limits

The most common cause of one channel, recording, or title failing is a content or account limit instead of a broken Roku app.

Try a different title in Xfinity Stream. If only certain content fails, check whether the program is in-home-only and whether a cloud DVR recording has finished. On Roku, Xfinity Stream is available in-home only, so the Roku has to stay on your in-home Xfinity network; to watch eligible content away from home, use Xfinity Stream on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Check for an Xfinity outage in the Xfinity app after signing in, or use the Xfinity status map at xfinity.com/support/statusmap. Registered Xfinity text users can send OUT to 266278.

If the account has reached a streaming limit, stop playback on another device. For downloaded-device limits, open Manage Devices in the Xfinity Stream app or at xfinity.com/stream/settings/devices, return a download device, and refresh after five minutes.

Use a factory reset only as a last resort from Settings, System, Advanced system settings, and Factory reset. It removes Roku settings, apps, and sign-ins, so Roku and Xfinity Stream both need activation afterward.
