Your Astro A50 mic works for game audio, but nobody hears you in Xbox chat. Start with the headset itself, then check Xbox mode, cabling, chat routing, Discord, privacy settings, and firmware.
The fix depends on your A50 model and where the mic fails: parties, Discord, one game, or every voice chat surface.
Lower the boom mic first
Use this when the headset powers on and game audio plays, but your voice never appears in an Xbox party. Astro A50 models use a physical flip-to-mute boom, so the mic has to sit in the lowered talk position.
Move the boom mic all the way down.
Press the Xbox button.
Open Parties & chats.
Select Start a party, then speak normally.
Watch for voice activity around your gamerpic. If it moves, Xbox is receiving your A50 mic.
Put the base station in Xbox mode
Press PLAYSYNC on an Astro A50 X or A50 Gen 5 until the headset or base station shows XBOX.
On A50 Gen 3 or Gen 4, move the base station switch from PC to Xbox. Gen 3 has the switch on the right side; Gen 4 has it on the rear.
Seat the headset on the base station.
Undock the headset so it pairs again.
Open Parties & chats and test the mic in a new Xbox party.
If you switch between Xbox and PC often, check the mode before changing deeper settings.
Fix the A50 X Xbox cabling
The most common A50 X setup mistake is plugging USB into the wrong USB-C port group on the base station.
Connect HDMI from the Xbox to the A50 X Base Station HDMI input labeled XBOX.
Connect USB from the Xbox to the USB-C port in the XBOX group.
Connect HDMI OUT from the base station to your TV or display.
Connect the supplied USB Combo Y Cable and Power Adapter to 5V DC.
Press PLAYSYNC until the headset is on XBOX, then test party chat again.
Use USB only when HDMI passthrough is the issue
If the A50 X is detected but voice chat breaks through the HDMI passthrough setup, bypass HDMI through the base station and keep Xbox chat on USB.
Connect the Xbox HDMI cable directly to the TV or display. Connect a USB cable from the Xbox console to the A50 X Base Station USB-C port designated for XBOX. Keep the base station powered by the supplied power adapter.
Press PLAYSYNC until the headset is on XBOX. Xbox game and voice chat now travel as one USB-audio signal, and Game/Voice balancing stays available because USB is connected to the Xbox-labeled port.
If this method fails, move to Xbox party controls and privacy settings because the headset connection is no longer the first suspect.
Check Xbox party audio controls
Use these Xbox controls when the A50 is detected but party chat still acts muted.
- 1.Press the Xbox button and select the Audio & music icon at the bottom of the guide.
- 2.Raise headset volume, adjust chat mixer, and review mic monitoring.
- 3.Turn on Headset mic when that toggle appears for your connected device.
- 4.Go to Parties & chats, open the active party, and choose Unmute for yourself.
- 5.Leave the party and rejoin from Parties & chats if the voice indicator still does not move.
Set Xbox headset audio and chat routing
Open Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output. Under Headset audio, choose Windows Sonic for Headphones, Dolby Atmos for Headphones, or DTS Headphone:X.
Open Volume options and review Chat mixer and Party chat output. Bad routing or mixer settings make chat seem broken even when the A50 mic is connected.
Return to Parties & chats and speak in a party. When the voice indicator moves there, the headset and Xbox account are communicating correctly.
Disconnect Discord or join it through Xbox
Discord voice and Xbox Party Chat do not run at the same time. An active Discord Voice session sends chat there instead of the Xbox party you expected.
Press the Xbox button and open Parties & chats. If the active chat says Discord or Discord Voice, open it, disconnect, and rejoin your Xbox party or game voice channel.
To use Discord instead, open Parties & chats > Discord Voice, then select the Discord server and voice channel. If you transferred Discord from mobile or desktop, turn off Mute and Deafen in Discord.
If this method fails, test a normal Xbox party next so you know whether the issue is Discord routing or the Xbox headset connection.
Allow voice chat in privacy settings
This fixes accounts blocked by Xbox privacy or family controls.
Press the Xbox button.
Open Profile & system > Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy > View details & customize > Communication & multiplayer.
Set Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites to Everybody or Friends.
For cross-platform game chat or Discord, set You can communicate outside of Xbox with voice & text to Everybody.
Set You can join cross-network play to Allow.
For a child or teen account, a parent or family organizer must change these settings through Family settings, the Xbox Family Settings app, or family account management.
Update the A50 firmware and software
Open Logitech's Astro Series Software page.
Select DOWNLOAD G HUB for Astro A50 X or A50 Gen 5 on PC or Mac.
Select DOWNLOAD G MOBILE APP NOW for supported mobile configuration on A50 X or A50 Gen 5.
Select DOWNLOAD ACC FOR MICROSOFT STORE or DOWNLOAD ACC FOR MAC for A50 Gen 3 or A50 Gen 4.
Connect the headset and base station to the computer or mobile app, then install any firmware update offered.
Review sidetone, noise reduction, and mic presets before testing Xbox party chat again.
Skip the old Logitech Firmware Update Tool path and Kinect microphone steps. Current A50 X and A50 Gen 5 models use Logitech G HUB or the Logitech G Mobile App; A50 Gen 3 and Gen 4 use Astro Command Center.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Astro A50 mic work in Xbox party chat but not Discord?
Discord Voice and Xbox Party Chat cannot run at the same time on Xbox. Leave the active Discord Voice session, or join Discord from Parties & chats > Discord Voice and make sure Mute and Deafen are off.
Which app should I use to update my Astro A50?
Use Logitech G HUB or the Logitech G Mobile App for Astro A50 X and A50 Gen 5. Use Astro Command Center for A50 Gen 3 and Gen 4.
Do I need optical audio for Astro A50 on Xbox Series X or Series S?
No. Xbox Series X|S setup uses HDMI plus USB on A50 X, or USB-C/USB on A50 Gen 5. Optical applies to the older A50 Gen 3 and A50 Gen 4 Xbox base stations, which take an optical cable from an Xbox One that has an optical output.
Why can only some people not hear my Astro A50 mic?
That player may be muted or blocked. On Xbox, open Parties & chats or Friends, select the player profile, choose Unmute or remove the block, then rejoin the party or game chat.
