You need your NETGEAR switch IP address to open its management page, but there is no single address that works for every model. The address depends on your model and whether it uses DHCP, saved static settings, or default addressing. Start with the model check below, then use NETGEAR Discovery Tool, your router, or Insight to find yours.
Make sure your switch has a management address
Before searching for an IP, check whether your switch supports management. An unmanaged NETGEAR switch has no management interface or management IP address to find.
Read the exact model number and hardware revision on the product label. Then check that model’s official NETGEAR product classification. Similar names identify different products: the GS110MX is unmanaged, while the GS110EMX is managed. Continue below for an Easy Smart/Plus, Smart, Insight-managed, or fully managed switch.
Keep the label’s MAC address handy to identify the correct device in discovery results. That MAC address identifies the switch; it is not its IP address.
Find the address with NETGEAR Discovery Tool
Start with NETGEAR Discovery Tool for supported Easy Smart/Plus and Smart switches on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
- 1.Open the NETGEAR Discovery Tool support page, select Downloads, and download and install the package for your operating system.
- 2.Connect your computer to the same local network as the switch. Discovery requires the same Layer 2 network; recent firmware using UPnP also requires the appropriate subnet and discovery settings.
- 3.Open the tool and select the Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapter connected to that network under Choose a connection.
- 4.Click Start Searching. The tool lists the switches it discovers on the selected network.
- 5.Read your switch’s IP address in the results; if several switches appear, identify yours by the model and other details shown. Click ADMIN PAGE to open the switch’s browser interface. On the GS308Ev4, the HOME page also shows the assigned IP address after you sign in.
Your router’s device list can reveal the IP
Connect your computer to the router’s network. Then sign in to the router’s local browser interface.
On a supported NETGEAR router, open BASIC > Attached Devices. On models that use Device Manager, open that page instead. Find the switch by matching its MAC address to the product label. Read the IP address beside the matching device.
For a non-NETGEAR router, open its DHCP client or lease list. The exact page label depends on the router. Match the switch’s printed MAC address to the assigned IP. A switch with a saved static address can be absent from a DHCP lease list.
Tip: Read the address beside the switch’s MAC; your router’s gateway or public IP and your computer’s own IP identify different things.
If you prefer your phone, try Insight
NETGEAR Insight supports local discovery on S3600 XS508TM, XS516TM, and XS724TM switches. It also supports GS105Ev2 firmware 1.6.0.15 and later, and GS308Ev4 firmware 1.0.1.3 and later.
Install the official NETGEAR Insight app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, following NETGEAR’s Insight app installation instructions. Next, connect your phone to Wi-Fi on the same network as the switch. S3600 discovery also requires Internet connectivity.
Open Insight. If you need an account, select Create NETGEAR Account. Enter your NETGEAR credentials and tap LOG IN.
Read the switch’s IP address in the device list. Local discovery and cloud management have different model requirements. Finding the address does not require switching a supported device into cloud-managed mode. If Insight does not find your switch, try NETGEAR Discovery Tool or your router’s device list.
When discovery returns nothing
These checks fix adapter-selection and local-permission problems, then offer Windows discovery for supported switches.
In NETGEAR Discovery Tool, select the adapter connected to the switch under Choose a connection. If that list is empty on Windows 11 24H2, install NDT 2.0.7 or a newer release containing its adapter-list fix from the tool’s Downloads page.
Reopen the tool after updating. Select your adapter under Choose a connection. Click Start Searching.
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. Enable access for Insight if it appears in the list.
On a Mac with local-network privacy controls, open the Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. Allow the discovery application if it appears in the list. Retry discovery after changing the relevant permission.
For switches advertising UPnP discovery, open Windows File Explorer > Network. Enable Network Discovery if prompted. Double-click the switch under Network Infrastructure to open its browser interface. The GS810EMX appears as Nighthawk SX10.
Sign in to the switch. On the GS810EMX, the Home page displays the switch’s IP address.
Use the default address only for default settings
For applicable Easy Smart/Plus, Smart, and Smart Cloud switches using default addressing, 192.168.0.239 is the fallback when no DHCP server is present. It does not override a saved custom static address.
Connect your computer directly to the switch by Ethernet, with no DHCP server on that connection. Wait approximately one minute for the switch to fall back to its default address. Then use the Windows or Mac settings below to give your computer’s Ethernet connection the temporary IP address 192.168.0.210 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
On Windows, open Settings > Network & internet > Ethernet. Select the connected network. Beside IP assignment, select Edit. Under Edit IP settings, choose Manual.
Enable IPv4. Enter 192.168.0.210 in IP address. Enter 255.255.255.0 in Subnet mask. Select Save.
On a Mac, open the Apple menu > System Settings > Network. Select your Ethernet service. Open Details > TCP/IP. Set Configure IPv4 to Manually.
Enter 192.168.0.210 in IP address. Enter 255.255.255.0 in Subnet mask. Save the network settings. Open 192.168.0.239 in your browser.
For applicable Easy Smart/Plus switches, enter the switch password. Click Login. Restore your computer’s original network settings when you finish. Disconnecting DHCP does not erase a saved static configuration; a switch configured with a custom static address keeps that address.
Factory reset as a last resort
Read your exact model’s reset instructions before proceeding. A factory reset erases the switch configuration and restores default addressing; it does not reveal the previous IP address.
On a powered GS308Ev4, hold the recessed Reset button with a paper clip for more than five seconds. A shorter press only reboots this model.
Release the button. Allow the switch to restart. Use NETGEAR Discovery Tool or your router’s device list, following the steps above, to find its newly assigned DHCP address. Without a DHCP server, follow the applicable default-address procedure above.
Tip: Reset button names and timings differ between models, so use the GS308Ev4 timing only for that model.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my NETGEAR switch IP address change?
A DHCP-assigned address can change, leaving an old browser bookmark pointing to the wrong address. Rediscover the switch’s current IP before using that bookmark again.
Which fallback IP addresses do fully managed NETGEAR switches use?
Documented M4250, M4300, and M4350 models use 169.254.100.100 for ordinary management and 192.168.0.239 for a dedicated OOB port where equipped. These fallbacks apply after 120 seconds without DHCP when the switch uses default addressing. The ordinary management and OOB interfaces have separate addresses.
Can I find a switch that has a static IP address?
Yes. In Advanced IP Scanner on Windows, enter the actual management-network address range and click Scan. Match the switch’s MAC address in the results and read its IP. The switch must be reachable within the scanned range. NETGEAR documents generic IP scanning as an alternative; it does not endorse this particular scanner.
Why do older instructions recommend different NETGEAR discovery tools?
NETGEAR retired Smart Control Center and ProSAFE Plus Utility and directs users to NETGEAR Discovery Tool. The older NETGEAR Switch Discovery Tool is a separate utility, and newer firmware on several models removed its discovery support. Use the current NETGEAR Discovery Tool for supported models.
Does creating a NETGEAR account reveal my switch IP address?
No. Account registration alone does not discover devices on your network. Insight cloud lookup requires a supported switch already associated with an organization or location that your account can access.
