A forgotten Ubiquiti admin password can lock you out of your router, camera, or network settings. There is no universal Ubiquiti default password: the login depends on your product and whether it has already been configured. Start with the matching login below, then work through saved passwords and account recovery before erasing your device's settings.
Match the default password to your device
Choose your device below, using factory credentials only before setup or after a factory reset.
- 1.For a UniFi console or controller, connect to its local network and browse to its IP address, or try
unifi/on a network with a UniFi Gateway. Sign in with your UI Account when configured. Local-only deployments initially use username admin and the password created during setup. - 2.For a factory-state EdgeRouter, use username ubnt and password ubnt. Factory-state EdgeSwitch and EdgeSwitch X models also use ubnt/ubnt at their DHCP-assigned management IP. Without DHCP, EdgeSwitch models fall back to
192.168.1.2, while EdgeSwitch X ES-10X and ES-10XP models fall back to192.168.1.20. - 3.For an airMAX M or AC radio whose factory login requests credentials, use ubnt/ubnt. The point-to-point setup address is
192.168.1.20. An airFiber AF60 instead asks you to create a username and password during first-run setup. - 4.For an unadopted, factory-state wired UniFi Protect camera, browse to its IP address and use username ui and password ui. These credentials do not apply to an adopted camera.
- 5.For a factory-state UniFi Mobile Router, UMR Industrial, or UMR Ultra, connect locally by Ethernet or Wi-Fi and browse to
https://192.168.105.1. Use the default admin password ui. - 6.For SSH on newer factory-state UniFi hardware, consoles and gateways use username root with password ui; other UniFi devices use ui/ui. On older devices, consoles and gateways use root/ubnt, and other UniFi devices use ubnt/ubnt. These credentials are for SSH, not a universal browser login. UniFi console SSH is disabled by default.
Look for a password you already saved
Open the password manager in the browser profile or account that saved your login.
Search for account.ui.com, your device's local IP address, or its hostname.
On desktop Chrome, open More > Passwords and autofill > Google Password Manager.
Select the matching entry under Passwords.
Select Show password.
Complete authentication if prompted.
In Microsoft Edge, open Settings and more > Settings > Passwords and autofill > Microsoft Password Manager.
Select the arrow beside the saved entry.
Select the eye icon to reveal the password.
Enter your device PIN or password if prompted.
In Firefox, open Passwords from the menu.
Find your site or IP address using Search Passwords.
Select the matching entry.
Select the eye icon.
Complete device authentication if prompted.
On iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 18 or later, open Passwords.
Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
Select All or the relevant shared group.
Open the saved Ubiquiti entry.
On a Mac running macOS Sequoia 15 or later, open Passwords.
Authenticate with Touch ID or your Mac account password.
Select the matching account.
Tip: Editing a saved password entry does not change the password on your Ubiquiti device or account.
Recover your UniFi account by email
For a deployment using a UI Account, select Forgot Password at the UniFi sign-in screen.
Enter the email address associated with your UI Account.
Follow the emailed reset link to set a replacement password.
For a local-only administrator, select Forgot Password on the local sign-in screen. Email recovery requires a working SMTP server configured before the lockout.
Follow the local account's reset email to replace its password.
A password reset leaves multi-factor authentication in place. Complete sign-in with a previously configured email method, authenticator, UI Verify, or backup recovery code. Ubiquiti cannot reset UI Account MFA when every authentication method is lost.
If the reset email does not arrive, contact the deployment's owner or administrator to check your account association or restore authorized access. If every administrator and recovery route is lost, reset the deployment's devices and rebuild.
Retrieve device credentials while you still have access
An accessible app or management account lets you find or replace these device credentials.
For a standalone UniFi access point, open the UniFi mobile app.
Open Configure > Device Credentials to view its existing credentials. Standalone AP credentials have no email recovery.
For adopted UniFi Network devices, open UniFi Network > UniFi Devices.
Select Device Updates and Settings at the bottom left.
Expand Device SSH Settings.
Use Device SSH Authentication to view or configure the credentials. These control device SSH access, not your UI Account or console browser login.
For a Mobile Router associated with your Mobility account, sign in to mobility.ui.com.
Locate the managed router's admin password in the portal.
For AmpliFi, try your Wi-Fi password in the app or router browser interface if setup used one password for both. This works only if the admin password was not changed separately.
With an accessible AmpliFi app session, select the router icon.
Open General > Actions > Change password.
Enter the replacement admin password.
Select ✓ to save it.
Ask the owner to restore access
For a workplace, ISP, or other managed deployment, start with its owner or administrator before resetting anything.
Contact the owner or an authorized administrator to restore access or invite a replacement administrator without resetting the hardware.
For a UniFi OS console changing owners, have the current owner sign in.
If the recipient is missing, have the owner add them through Admins.
Have the owner open Control Plane > Transfer Ownership and select the recipient.
If the owner cannot restore access, use the account recovery method for your login.
For a deployment you own with no remaining administrator or recovery route, follow its model-specific factory reset and rebuild procedure.
Factory-reset UniFi only after recovery fails
A factory reset clears device configuration for a fresh setup; it does not reset your UI Account password.
Keep the UniFi device powered on.
Hold its Reset button for approximately 5 to 10 seconds, following the model's reset LED indication. Exact timing and button location depend on the model.
Release the button.
Allow the device to restart.
Remove the old device record from its controller if the physical reset left that record behind.
Set up a reset UniFi console again.
Re-adopt a reset managed device, such as an access point or camera, into your deployment.
Use the reset procedure for your other routers and switches
Reset timing differs across Ubiquiti's product families. The procedures below erase device configuration and require setup again.
For an EdgeRouter, let it finish booting.
Hold Reset for about 10 seconds as the port LEDs light in sequence, until port 1 lights up again.
Release the button.
Wait for the router to reboot.
Connect through eth0.
Browse to https://192.168.1.1.
Sign in with username ubnt and password ubnt.
For a UniFi Mobile Router, UMR Industrial, or UMR Ultra, hold Reset for at least 10 seconds until the LED flashes.
Configure the router again after the reset.
Remove its old Mobility association if required for reactivation.
Use Activate Device with the nine-digit activation code on its label to reactivate it.
For an AmpliFi HD, Instant, or Gamer kit, reset the MeshPoints first: hold each powered MeshPoint's side Reset hole for 10 seconds or until the tone.
Hold the router's bottom Reset button with a paperclip for five seconds or until its screen indicates rebooting.
Release the button.
For an AmpliFi Alien, hold the bottom Reset hole beside WAN and power for 10 seconds or until the front indicates rebooting.
Set up the AmpliFi system again with new credentials.
For a running EdgeSwitch covered by the standard EdgeSwitch procedure, hold Reset for approximately 15 seconds.
Release after the system LED flashes blue for two seconds.
Allow the reset to finish.
For an EdgeSwitch X ES-10X or ES-10XP, disconnect power.
Hold Reset while reconnecting power.
Release during the second cycle of the port LEDs. EdgeSwitch XP models require a separate procedure.
If the EdgeRouter's runtime reset fails, try its power-on reset: disconnect power first.
Hold Reset while reconnecting power for about 10 seconds, until port 1 lights again.
Release the button.
Wait for the reboot before using eth0 and https://192.168.1.1 again.
If the matching reset procedure still fails, consult the reset or recovery instructions for your exact model. Firmware recovery is a last resort after an ordinary reset fails.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can reinstalling the UniFi app reset my admin password?
No. Ubiquiti's documented recovery routes are Forgot Password, help from the deployment's owner or administrator, or a factory reset, and its documented resets use the device's Reset button or the app's Forget or Unmanage option. Reinstalling the phone app is not one of those methods.
Will restoring a UniFi backup remove the forgotten password?
A backup is not a password bypass. UniFi backups can include administrator configuration, so restoring that configuration can also restore the original access problem.
Can an SSH key help if I forgot a device password?
Yes, if an authorized SSH key was already provisioned on a UniFi device that supports key authentication. Its corresponding private key provides SSH access. It does not reset a UI Account or console web password.
Can I regain AmpliFi app access through my remote account?
Yes, when Remote Management was already enabled and linked to your Ubiquiti, Google, or Facebook account. Recover a forgotten account password through that provider. AmpliFi provides no local password-recovery service when both app access and usable credentials are lost.
