Personalizing your Windows 10 Calendar app with a custom background can make your scheduling experience more enjoyable. While the built-in options are somewhat limited, here's how to customize your calendar's appearance.
Accessing Calendar Background Settings
To begin customizing your calendar background, open the Calendar app from your Start menu. Once the app launches, look for the gear icon in the bottom-left corner to access settings. From there, select "Personalization" to find the background customization options.
Enabling Background Images
The key setting for background customization is the "Fill entire window" toggle. When you turn this switch on, the calendar will display your chosen background image throughout the app interface. This includes the left navigation pane where your calendar list appears.
Choosing Your Background
You have two main options for customizing your calendar background:
Solid Color Background
The first option lets you select a solid color for your background. The app will use a faded version of your chosen color at the top of the window, creating a subtle gradient effect.
Custom Image Background
For more personalization, you can use your own images. The Calendar app supports common image formats including .bmp, .png, .jpg, and .jpeg files. Click the "Browse" button to select an image from your computer, then click "Open" to apply it.
Removing or Changing Backgrounds
If you decide you want to return to the default appearance, simply go back to the Personalization settings and toggle the "Fill entire window" switch off. This will remove any background image or color you've applied.
To change to a different background, repeat the selection process with your new image or color choice. The app will immediately update with your new selection.
Current Limitations
Some users experience issues where calendar backgrounds unexpectedly turn black, and color change options may not always work as expected.
The scroll functionality in the calendar also differs from older Windows versions, with the scroll wheel moving week by week rather than month by month, which can affect how your background appears during navigation.
Despite these limitations, adding a custom background to your Windows 10 Calendar can still make the app feel more personal and enjoyable to use for your daily scheduling needs.
