Google to Switch to Annual Release Cycle for Pixel Watch 2 Alongside Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

Tech giants Apple and Samsung have annual releases for their smartwatches, while Google’s Fitbit line tends to get updated on a two-year cycle. However, according to an industry source, Google is switching things up and will now release a new Pixel Watch annually. It is expected that the Pixel Watch 2 will be released alongside the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro later this year.
Based on past releases, it is likely that the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will be unveiled in October, except for the Pixel 5 which launched in September. As for the Pixel Watch 2, details are scarce, but it is speculated that the overall design will remain similar, with refinements to potentially include a larger display and smaller bezels. The attachment mechanism for the watch band may also stay the same, allowing users to use their current Pixel Watch bands.
In terms of internal components, the Snapdragon W5+ with its 4nm manufacturing process is expected to make an appearance, hopefully providing longer battery life. While there has been no indication of different sizes for the watch, it would be a welcome addition.
The upcoming Google I/O event on May 10th may offer more information on the Pixel Watch 2, along with other devices like the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold. As the supposed release date draws closer, we hope to learn more about what to expect from the Pixel Watch 2.
