Your Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is stuck on the Google logo and won’t move past it. Maybe you were installing an update, maybe it just crashed, or maybe the phone overheated and shut itself off. Whatever caused it, you’re staring at that white G with no progress bar and no way to get to your home screen. Let’s get you back into Android 16.

Give It a Full 15 Minutes

After a major Android update or a forced reboot, the Pixel 10 Pro XL can sit on the logo for longer than feels normal. It’s unpacking and optimizing apps. If you see a thin progress bar crawling under the logo, the phone is still working. Plug it into power (using a 30W+ PPS charger if you have one) and walk away for a full 15 minutes. Don’t touch it. Interrupting that process can corrupt the boot partition.

Force Restart the Pixel

If you’ve waited 20 minutes and nothing has changed, do a force restart. Press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons together for about 10 seconds. Keep holding until the screen goes black and the Google logo reappears. Release the buttons and let it boot normally.

This isn’t a factory reset, it just kills the stuck boot process and starts fresh. It works more often than you’d think.

Boot Into Recovery Mode

If the force restart just loops you back to the same stuck logo, you need recovery mode. First, power the phone off completely (if you can, if it’s stuck, let the battery die or hold Power long enough to force a shutdown). Then press and hold Volume down and Power at the same time. Release Power when the bootloader screen appears, but keep holding Volume down. Use the volume keys to scroll to Recovery mode and press Power to select it.

You’ll see an Android robot with a red triangle. That’s normal. Press and hold Power, then tap Volume up once. The recovery menu appears. Try Apply update from ADB first if you can connect to a computer and sideload the latest OTA file without losing data. Otherwise, highlight Reboot system now and press Power. Sometimes a simple reboot from recovery breaks the loop.

Use Google's supported recovery path

Skip the old recovery-cache wipe step on Pixel. If the phone can boot, restart it, check Settings > System > Software update, check Storage, and use Safe mode to test whether a downloaded app is causing the problem.

If the phone still will not boot, stays on the logo, or keeps restarting, Google's documented button-based recovery path is a factory reset from Fastboot/Recovery. That erases the phone, so use it only as a last resort after non-destructive steps and backups have been considered.

Factory Reset From Recovery

If the cache wipe and ADB sideload aren’t options or don’t work, you’re looking at a factory reset from recovery. This erases everything on the phone, photos, apps, accounts, everything. Back up is not possible at this point, so only do this if you have a recent Google Drive backup or you’re okay with a fresh start.

In recovery, select Wipe data/factory reset. Confirm with Power. The process takes a minute. After it finishes, choose Reboot system now. The Pixel will boot clean and walk you through Android 16 setup.

Let the Phone Cool Down

The Pixel 10 Pro XL is known to overheat and shut off while charging. If your boot loop started after the phone got hot, that heat may have partially corrupted the boot process. Remove the phone case (this helps with heat dissipation), unplug it, and let the device sit for 30 minutes to cool down completely. Try the force restart again after it’s cool.

Check the Charging Port and Cable

A wonky USB-C connection can cause boot issues if the phone thinks it’s in a weird charging state. Inspect the Pixel’s charging port for lint, debris, or bent pins. Use a non-metallic pick or a can of compressed air to clean it. Try a different USB-C cable and a different charger, ideally a 30W+ PPS one. The phone is picky about chargers, and a bad power source can keep it stuck in a boot cycle.
