A blurry camera on your Google Pixel 10 Pro XL can turn every photo into a disappointment. Before you assume the hardware is damaged, try these simple fixes. Most blur issues are easy to solve without a trip to the repair shop.
Clean the Camera Lens
This is the most common culprit and the easiest fix. Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth to gently wipe the camera lens on the back of your Pixel. Fingerprints, dust, and smudges cause hazy or blurry photos. Avoid using your shirt or paper towels, they can scratch the lens coating.
Remove Your Phone Case
Some cases don't align perfectly with the camera bump, especially bulky or poorly designed ones. They can partially block the lens or create a fogged effect. Take your case off and snap a test photo. If it's sharper, the case is the problem.
Tap to Focus on Your Subject
Open the Camera app and tap on the subject you want in focus. A yellow square will appear showing where the camera is locking focus. If you're shooting something close up, the camera might be focusing on the background instead. Tap directly on your subject, or press and hold to lock the focus and exposure (AE/AF Lock).
Switch Between Camera Lenses
If one lens is blurry but the others are clear, the issue is specific to that lens. In the Camera app, try switching between the ultrawide, main, and telephoto lenses (often shown as 0.5x, 1x, and 5x+ on the Pro XL). If only one is blurry, give that lens an extra cleaning or check for damage.
Close and Reopen the Camera App
Swipe up from the bottom and hold to enter the app switcher, then swipe the Camera app away. Reopen it and try taking a photo. The camera software can glitch occasionally, causing autofocus to stick or image processing to go wrong.
Force Restart Your Pixel 10 Pro XL
Press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds, then release when the device restarts. This force restart clears any temporary software issues affecting the camera. It's safe and won't delete any data.
Check for Moisture or Condensation
Going from a cold environment to a warm one can cause condensation inside the camera lens or on the sensor. This looks like fog and makes every photo blurry. Let your Pixel sit at room temperature for 15 20 minutes before using the camera. Don't blow on the lens, that adds more moisture.
Let Your Phone Cool Down
If your Pixel 10 Pro XL is hot, the camera performance can degrade. Overheating during charging or heavy use is a known issue with this model. If you feel the phone getting warm, stop charging or close demanding apps, and give it a few minutes to cool. Taking photos with a hot phone often results in focus issues and blur.
Update Android and the Camera App
Go to Settings > System > Software Update to check for Android 16 updates. Camera processing improvements and autofocus fixes are included in regular updates. Also open the Google Play Store and update the Camera app if an update is available.
Reset Camera Settings
Open the Camera app, go to Settings (gear icon), and scroll to the bottom. Select Reset defaults to return all camera settings to their factory state. This won't delete any photos or videos, it only resets options like grid lines, HDR settings, and resolution preferences that might be causing issues.
