In a recent announcement, Google has officially terminated support for the first-generation Chromecast, stating that these devices will no longer receive software or security updates. As a result, users may experience a decline in performance, and Google will no longer provide technical support for these devices. The information was posted on the Chromecast support page, where Google informed users about the discontinuation of support for the original Chromecast model.

Google had already begun the process of phasing out support for the first-gen Chromecast. In 2019, the company ceased manufacturing and releasing major updates for the device, instead focusing on addressing bug fixes and security concerns. Engadget has highlighted that the last bug fix and security update for the first-generation Chromecast was released in November 2022, following a three-year pause.

Originally introduced in 2013, the Chromecast was a popular dongle that allowed users to "cast" content from their mobile devices or Chrome tabs onto a larger screen, enabling the streaming of photos, videos, and other media. Over the years, the Chromecast underwent design enhancements and received several new features, including the introduction of an Ultra version that supports 4K resolution. As an alternative, Google recommends the Chromecast With Google TV, which offers additional functionalities such as a remote control and an on-screen menu.

With the discontinuation of support for the first-generation Chromecast, users are advised to consider upgrading to newer models to ensure access to the latest software updates, security patches, and technical assistance from Google. By migrating to more recent Chromecast devices, users can continue to enjoy an optimal streaming experience and benefit from ongoing support provided by Google.
