Jelly Scrolling Effect

Common OnePlus 5 Issues and their Fixes

Some users noticed a jelly-like effect that surrounds your finger when you are scrolling the screen. The effect is quite prominent and some feel that it is a problem of the interface. Here is what the manufacturers have to say about the OnePlus 5 jelly screen effect.

Possible solutions

The problem is upon several forums and OnePlus is also aware of this issue. The company said that every OnePlus 5 phone has been manufactured by the same quality components which included the AMOLED display. According to them, the users who complained about the issue said that there was a subtle visual effect while they scrolled the screen. This is not something unnatural OnePlus said.

The touchscreens of the smartphones we use are made of high-quality displays. Those facing the issue may be applying excessive pressure on their display screen.

Battery Draining

Next in the list of common OnePlus 5 issues and their fixes is battery drain problem. Sudden battery drain in your system could be because of a faulty app or a certain feature which is consuming energy quite fast.

Step 1: To begin with, check the usage of battery:

Go to Settings > Battery – check the list of apps and services to see which one is behaving abnormally. Usually, the Android OS or Android System tops the list but if you find an app that is on top then it isn’t right. Tap on the app and click on Force Close to kill the app. The best thing would be to uninstall it. If it isn’t an app without which you can survive then install it back again but keep an eye on it.

Step 2: The Doze Mode also lets you save battery consumption. It is a pretty cool feature and has a dramatic effect on battery life. You can enable this feature from the Developers Options. Here is what you need to do:

  • Go to Settings > About Phone > Tap 7 times on the Build Number – this will activate the Developers Options.
  • Once the option is turned On, head over to Settings > Developers Options > Doze Mode – toggle it ON.

when the Doze Mode is enabled on the OnePlus 5, it helps in saving battery when your phone is not used for a long time and there is an unwanted activity of apps or services.

Step 3: The Ambient Display feature on the OnePlus 5 will wake your phone every time you receive a notification. Notifications are a common affair on our smartphones these days and every time you receive one your phone will wake. This causes the battery to drain. Disabling this feature will help to uphold the battery life of your phone. Here is what you need to do:

  • Go to Settings > Display > Ambient Display – toggle it OFF.

Step 4: The Location service is one of the most energy consuming features. When you are using this feature your smartphone is constantly working with satellites and towers to determine your Location and offer you service connected to it. However, try to keep the service OFF when not required.

If that’s not an option for you, here is what you can do:

  • Go to Settings > Location Mode – you will find three options here High Accuracy, Battery Saving, and Device Only. Check the Battery Saving option and use the Location Services while also saving the battery.

Step 5: keep the screen brightness to the minimum or comfort of your eyes. When you keep the brightness to maximum, the battery will drain faster.

OnePlus 5 Group Message Problem

The users seem to be facing problems while they send or receive picture messages or MMS in a group on their smartphone.

OnePlus doesn’t support MMS or group messages, you can use a third-party app which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

OnePlus 5 Reboots When 911 is Dialled

Several users complained about their phone rebooting when they dial 911. This is one of the strangest OnePlus 5 issues. Reddit and other forums have people reporting this problem. The company has made haste in solving this issue and has already pushed a software update to solve this issue.

  • Go to Settings > About Phone – check for updates.

Windows 10 Doesn’t Recognize OnePlus 5 as Storage Device

Another problem in the list of common OnePlus 5 issues and their fixes is that the device doesn’t seem to recognize Windows 10 as the storage device. This is a difficult situation because there are many times that we need to use our devices with our computers/laptop to transfer files and content. Here is what fixes this issue.

When the USB Debugging Mode is manually enabled it has solved this issue. You first need to enable the Developers Options. Follow the steps mentioned above and make the necessary changes. Once you are a developer you can proceed to the next step.

  • Go to Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging – toggle it ON to enable it.

Once this is done, restart your phone and then plug in your phone to the computer/laptop as you do to change the configuration of the USB to MTP. Your OnePlus 5 will now recognize Windows 10 and you can now transfer any content that you like.

Apps Don’t Work with Mobile Data

This is another issue that users of OnePlus 5 mobile are facing. Most games or apps that we use on our mobiles usually require internet to run. We generally use Wi-Fi for this, especially when we are playing games. For several OnePlus 5 users, some apps and games worked perfectly fine when they ran on Wi-Fi but did not work when the internet option was switched to Mobile Data.

A small change in the Settings can help solve this problem. Here is what you need to do.

  • Go to Settings > Data Usage – towards the right-hand side corner on top you will find 3 dots icon. Tap on it to open the menu and from this tap on Data Usage Control. You will see a list of apps that have been set to work only on Wi-Fi while some are set to Allow. If the app that you are using is set on Wi-Fi and you want it to work with Mobile data too then change the option to Allow.

Exit the screen and try using the app. It will work on both, Mobile Data and Wi-Fi. However, for some, the problem may lie in the APN Settings. Here is what you can try:

  • Go to Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > APN for Network – change the APN protocol to IPv4 or IPv4/IPv6. Usually, the setting is IPV6 by default and when some specific apps or games try to run using mobile data, they are unable to do so.

Use both the solutions to check which one works for you.

We have covered most of the common OnePlus 5 issues and their fixes in this guide. With these solutions, you will not run into any problems while handling your OnePlus 5 smartphone.
