Apple to introduce new widget system for Apple Watch with watchOS 10

Apple is planning to introduce an all-new system of widgets for the Apple Watch with watchOS 10, according to Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter on Bloomberg.

The new system will reportedly become a "central part" of the Apple Watch's interface and will resemble Glances and widget stacks found on iOS and iPadOS. Users will be able to scroll through different widgets, such as weather, calendar appointments, activity tracking, and stock tickers, rather than launching individual apps.

Apple is also testing changes to the Digital Crown, which may now launch the new widgets view, rather than navigate to the home screen. Gurman believes that the move is an admission that an iPhone-like app experience "doesn't always make sense on a watch" since "Apple Watch apps have barely caught on."

The changes are part of one of the Apple Watch's biggest software updates since its introduction and the most significant change to the Apple Watch this year. Minor hardware updates are expected to be unveiled later this year.
