If your Xiaomi 15 has stopped vibrating for calls, messages, or notifications, it can be a real nuisance. The good news is that most of the time, this is a software or settings issue you can fix yourself in a few minutes.
Force Restart Your Phone
Let's start with the simplest fix. A force restart can clear out temporary glitches in HyperOS that might be affecting the vibration motor. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds, until you see the Xiaomi logo appear on the screen. This doesn't erase any data, and I've seen it resolve a lot of random system hiccups.
Check Your Sound and Vibration Profile
It's easy to accidentally switch your phone to a silent mode. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Control Center and look at the sound tile. Make sure it's set to "Sound" or "Vibrate," not "Silent." You can also go into Settings > Sound & vibration and check the "Sound mode" at the top of the screen.
Verify the Core Vibration Settings
Head to Settings > Sound & vibration. Here, you'll find the main toggles. Ensure "Vibrate on ring" is switched on. Right below that, tap on "Vibration intensity." You can adjust separate sliders for incoming calls, notifications, and touch feedback. If they're set too low, you might not feel anything.
For keyboard vibrations, you'll need to check within your keyboard app. If you use Gboard, open the app, go to Preferences, and toggle "Vibrate on tap." For the Xiaomi keyboard, look for a similar setting in its preferences menu.
Inspect App-Specific Notification Settings
Sometimes the problem isn't system-wide, it's just one app. If your WhatsApp messages aren't vibrating but your calls are, you need to check that app's notification permissions. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps, select the problematic app, and tap "Notifications."
Make sure notifications are enabled for the app overall. Then, tap into specific notification categories (like "Messages" or "Calls") and ensure the "Vibrate" option is checked. HyperOS gives you very granular control, which is great, but it also means a setting can be turned off in one specific place.
Update Your System Software
Outdated software can sometimes cause hardware components like the vibration motor to act up. Xiaomi releases HyperOS updates that often include bug fixes. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version and tap the "Check for updates" button.
If an update is available, install it. It's a good idea to be connected to Wi-Fi and have your phone charged above 50% before you start. After the update completes, test your vibration again to see if the issue is resolved.
Boot Into Safe Mode
This step helps you figure out if a third-party app you installed is causing a conflict. To boot your Xiaomi 15 into Safe Mode, press and hold the Power button until the power menu appears. Then, long-press the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will appear asking if you want to reboot to Safe Mode; tap "OK."
If your vibration works perfectly in Safe Mode, you know a downloaded app is the culprit. Restart your phone normally to exit Safe Mode, and try uninstalling any recently added apps one by one to find the offender.
Check for Interference from Themes or Always-On-Display
Customizations can sometimes have unintended effects. If you're using a theme from the Themes app, try switching back to the default theme temporarily to see if vibration returns. Also, check your Always-On-Display settings under Settings > Always-on display & Lock screen.
Some AOD modes or schedules might interfere with notification behaviors. Try disabling AOD for a moment as a test.
Run a Hardware Test
Xiaomi phones have a built-in diagnostic menu. Open your Phone dialer and enter *#*#6484#*#*. This will open the CIT (Component Integrity Test) menu. Scroll through the list and look for the "Vibrator" test. Tap it to run.
If the phone vibrates strongly during this test, the hardware is functioning correctly and the issue is definitely software-based. If there's no vibration at all in this test, it points to a potential hardware problem.
Reset App Preferences or All Settings
Before doing anything drastic, try resetting app preferences. This resets notification permissions, background data restrictions, and default app assignments without deleting any personal data. Go to Settings > Apps > Reset app preferences and confirm.
If that doesn't help, you can perform a broader reset. Navigate to Settings > About phone > Factory reset. Here, choose "Reset all settings." This will revert all your system settings (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, display, sound) back to default but will keep your photos, messages, and apps intact.
Consider a Factory Reset (Last Resort)
If you've tried everything else and the vibration motor failed the hardware test, a factory reset is the final software step. This will erase all data on your phone, so you must back up everything important first. Use Xiaomi Cloud or transfer files to a computer.
After backing up, go to Settings > About phone > Factory reset > Erase all data. If the vibration still doesn't work on a completely fresh install of HyperOS, the issue is likely a faulty vibration motor that requires professional repair.
