Resetting a Wyze Cam v4 is as simple as holding a button, but there are a few quirks specific to this camera that make it worth running through the process step by step. The v4 launched in 2024 with 2.5K QHD (2560x1440) resolution and color night vision, and it relies entirely on the Wyze app for setup. If you're dealing with a camera that won't connect, keeps going offline, or you're selling it, a hard reset is the standard fix.

The quickest method: press and hold the setup button on the bottom of the camera for a full 10 seconds. The status light flashes yellow, then the camera chimes and restarts. That's a successful factory reset. The whole thing takes about 30 seconds from button press to ready-for-setup.

What a Hard Reset Actually Clears

Factory resetting the Wyze Cam v4 wipes everything stored locally on the device: your Wi-Fi credentials, any custom settings like motion zones, detection sensitivity, and schedule preferences, and the pairing record from your Wyze account. Also cleared is any locally cached video if you have a microSD card inserted, the card itself keeps its data, but the camera stops recognizing it as a paired storage device until you set up again.

What does NOT get wiped: your Wyze account itself, Cam Plus subscription status, any cloud video clips already saved, and any routines or automations created in the Wyze app. Those live on Wyze's servers and reattach automatically when you re-add the camera to your account after reset.

If you have a microSD card installed for continuous recording, you'll need to reformat it in the app after reset if you want a clean slate. The card's existing footage remains readable if you pop it into a computer, but the camera treats it as unformatted until you go through the setup menu.

The Standard Hard Reset Process

Make sure the Wyze Cam v4 is plugged in with the included USB-C wall adapter and powered on. The status light on the front should be solid yellow (meaning it's powered but not connected) or solid blue (connected).

Locate the small circular setup button on the bottom of the camera. Press and hold it with a paperclip or your fingernail for a full 10 seconds. Do not release early. After about 3 seconds the light starts flashing yellow. Keep holding. At the 10-second mark the camera chimes and the light turns off briefly. Release the button. The camera reboots, the light stays solid yellow, and it enters setup mode broadcasting its own Wi-Fi network (SSID starts with "WyzeCam_").

From here open the Wyze app on your phone. Tap the + icon at the top left, select Add Device > Wyze Cam v4, and follow the in-app instructions. The app finds the camera's broadcast network, connects, and walks you through joining your home Wi-Fi. Note: the Wyze Cam v4 supports 2.4 GHz only, so make sure your phone is on the 2.4 GHz band during setup or the app may not find the camera.

If the 10-Second Hold Doesn't Work

Sometimes the camera ignores the button press, especially if it's hung mid-update or the software has locked up. Try this: unplug the USB-C cable from the camera, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. As soon as the camera powers on and the status light appears, usually within 5 seconds, immediately press and hold the setup button. Continue holding for the full 10 seconds even if the light starts flashing yellow. This catch-the-boot trick works on about 90% of stuck units.

If the camera is completely unresponsive to any button presses, leave it unplugged for a full 60 seconds. Plug it back in, wait for the status light to show (solid yellow or blue), then try the standard 10-second reset again. A power cycle often brings the hardware out of a glitchy state.

Reset Through the Wyze App Instead

If the camera is online and showing in your Wyze app but you want to wipe it remotely, you can reset from the software side. Open the Wyze app, tap the camera's live feed tile. Tap the gear icon in the top right for Settings. Scroll down to Device Info and tap Factory Reset. Confirm. The camera wipes itself and reboots into setup mode automatically. This requires the camera to be online and connected to your account, so it won't help if the device is already offline.

Deregister Without Resetting

If you're giving away or selling the Wyze Cam v4 but don't need to wipe the Wi-Fi credentials, you can simply remove the camera from your account. In the Wyze app, go to the camera's settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Remove Device. This deregisters it from your account but leaves the camera's current Wi-Fi connection intact. Anyone who receives the unit will need to do a full factory reset before they can pair it to their account.

For selling or gifting, always do both: deregister AND factory reset. Deregistering alone leaves your home network credentials stored on the camera. A quick 10-second bottom-button hold solves that.

If three consecutive reset attempts fail to put the camera in setup mode, it's likely a hardware fault. The v4 is generally reliable, but any electronic can fail. At that point a replacement unit is the only practical option.
