TikTok, one of the world's most popular social media platforms, is reportedly embracing artificial intelligence (AI) with the addition of a chatbot to its app. The newly launched bot, named "Tako," is currently being tested in limited markets in the Philippines, as reported by Reuters. Tako aims to engage users in conversations about TikTok content while assisting them in discovering more engaging videos.

Tako's presence within the TikTok app can be observed in the main video interface, as depicted in videos and screenshots captured by Watchful.ai. Positioned above the user's profile picture on the right side of the screen, Tako is represented by a ghost-shaped icon. This integration reflects TikTok's dedication to remaining at the forefront of innovation and continually exploring new technologies to enrich the user experience.

According to TechCrunch, TikTok stated, "Being at the forefront of innovation is core to building the TikTok experience, and we're always exploring new technologies that add value to our community." The company also expressed its commitment to creating a safe and entertaining space that fosters creativity and drives culture. With this new feature, TikTok aims to empower users in select markets to search and discover content in innovative ways.

Tako appears to combine elements of TikTok's existing search function and its remarkably accurate recommendation algorithm, particularly noticeable on the For You page. By gathering user preferences, Tako aims to provide hyper-targeted and personalized content recommendations, enhancing the overall user experience on the platform. This integration demonstrates TikTok's commitment to evolving and providing new avenues for users to navigate and engage with the app.

TikTok's introduction of an AI chatbot follows a growing trend among social media platforms. In February, Snapchat introduced its own AI chatbot called MyAI. Initially limited to users who paid $3.99 for Snapchat Plus, the AI chatbot was made accessible to all users on the app in April, expanding its reach.

As TikTok ventures into the realm of AI chatbots with Tako, it seeks to leverage the power of artificial intelligence to elevate user interactions, content discovery, and personalized recommendations. The introduction of Tako and the wider adoption of chatbots across various platforms exemplify the ever-evolving nature of social media, as it continues to integrate advanced technologies for enhanced user experiences.
