Spotify has announced it will be shutting down Heardle, the Wordle-inspired music guessing game, which it acquired in July 2021 for an undisclosed amount. Heardle is a game that offers players six attempts to guess a popular song by listening to the song's intro and guessing its artist and title. Spotify had previously stated that Heardle would remain free to play for everyone.

However, Spotify has now decided to shut down Heardle on May 5, as it focuses on its other objectives around music discovery. An in-app message on the Heardle website has notified users of the impending closure.

Sources suggest that Spotify's decision to shut down Heardle was due to its desire to devote more resources to music discovery through recent app changes. The company has found that Heardle did not help achieve its goals of improved music discovery. Furthermore, with the redesign, much of what Heardle had to offer was duplicated by the company's other music discovery features and doing so outside of the Spotify app.

As a result, Spotify will be shutting down Heardle on May 5th, marking the end of the popular music guessing game.
