Samsung has unveiled its latest version of the One UI Watch software, One UI 5 Watch, which will be available for download later this year on compatible Galaxy Watch models. The updated software focuses on sleep tracking, fitness, and safety features. Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics, said in a press release that the One UI 5 Watch delivers a "comprehensive health experience" that will "help people improve the quality of their sleep."

One UI 5 Watch offers a new Sleep Insights UI, which displays users' sleep scores while providing related insights like sleep phases, snoring hours, and blood oxygen levels. Galaxy Watch owners can also access Sleep Coaching, a feature that was previously only available via the Samsung Health app. To reduce distractions at night, the watch will automatically turn off other IoT devices in the house via SmartThings when it detects the user is in deep sleep. Sleep Mode will also mute notifications and sounds from both the watch and the user's phone, while switching the wearable's tracking to its infrared sensor.

For fitness, One UI 5 Watch introduces Personalized Heart Rate Zone, an analytical tool that establishes five levels of intensity based on workout statistics. Users can integrate these levels across various exercises like running to find the best workout regimen for their goals. Additionally, Galaxy Watch Pro owners can benefit from an improved Route Workout that tracks running, walking, hiking, and cycling. Users will soon be able to search and access the GPX File Database from the Samsung Health app.

One UI 5 Watch also enhances the SOS feature, allowing users to communicate and relay their location to emergency services and providing immediate access to medical information. Fall Detection will also be enabled by default for users aged 55 or older.

The new software features will be first available on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Watch Series, expected to include the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Pro. Samsung wearable owners from the past two generations in the U.S. or Korea can register for the One UI 5 beta via the Samsung Members app.
