When your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 gets stuck on the Samsung logo during startup, it's easy to worry the phone is bricked. The logo stays frozen, sometimes with a tiny spinning circle that never goes anywhere. This usually traces back to a software crash, an interrupted system update, or a battery that's run too low. Let's walk through the fixes that work for this specific model.
Wait for a Low Battery to Wake Up
The Z Fold 7 has a known issue with deep discharge, if the battery drained completely, it might not have enough juice to even show the charging indicator. Plug it into a wall charger with the included cable and leave it alone for 30 minutes. A completely flat battery can take that long before the Samsung logo appears again.
If you see the charging icon but it disappears after a few seconds, try a different cable and a USB PD PPS charger. The phone needs the right power negotiation to wake a deeply discharged battery.
Force Restart the Phone
If the logo is stuck for more than 15 minutes, a force restart is your quickest move. Press and hold the Volume Down and Side buttons together for about 10 seconds. Keep holding until the screen goes black and the Samsung logo reappears.
This isn't a factory reset, it just kills whatever process is frozen during boot. I've seen it work on plenty of Galaxy phones that seemed totally unresponsive.
Boot Into Recovery Mode
When a force restart keeps bringing you back to the same stuck logo, recovery mode is the next step. Start with the phone turned off. Press and hold Volume Up and the Side button together, then plug it into a computer via USB-C. Keep holding until the screen shows "Installing system update" or the Android recovery menu.
Once you're in recovery, use the volume buttons to highlight Wipe cache partition and press the Side button to select it. This clears temporary system files without touching your data. Reboot the phone afterward. If the problem was a corrupted cache, you'll be back in business.
Use Smart Switch to Reinstall the OS
If the cache wipe doesn't help, you'll need a computer and Samsung's Smart Switch app. Download it on a PC or Mac and connect your Z Fold 7 via USB cable. Put the phone into recovery mode as described above, then select Emergency recovery in Smart Switch.
The app will download and reinstall the current Android 15 firmware while keeping your apps and data. The process takes about 20 minutes. Just make sure your internet connection is stable and your computer doesn't go to sleep during the download.
Free Up Storage Before the Next Update
A lot of boot-loop issues happen because a system update ran out of room mid-install. If you get the phone running again, check Settings > Device care > Storage. Aim for at least 10 GB free before trying another software update. Delete old downloads, clear app caches, or offload photos to Google Photos.
Check the USB-C Port and Cable
Samsung's USB-C ports are notorious for collecting lint and pocket fluff. Take a close look inside the port with a flashlight. If you see debris, use a can of compressed air (short bursts) or a wooden toothpick to gently dislodge it. Don't use anything metal, it can short the pins.
The cable matters too. A frayed or non-certified USB cable can prevent the phone from communicating with a computer during recovery. Stick with the cable that came in the box or a certified Samsung USB PD PPS cable.
Restore From a Cloud Backup
If you end up having to factory reset through recovery mode (selecting Wipe data/factory reset), you can get your stuff back from a Samsung Cloud backup. After the reset, during the initial setup, sign in with the same Samsung account and choose Restore. You'll see a list of backup dates, pick the most recent one.
This is also a good reminder to check that automatic backups are turned on (Settings > Accounts and backup > Backup data).
Battery Calibration and the 45% Charging Issue
A stuck logo can happen when the battery calibration is off, especially if you've noticed the phone stops charging around 45%. Let the battery drain completely until the phone shuts off, then charge it uninterrupted to 100% using a 25W USB PD PPS charger. Do this once or twice to let the battery gas gauge recalibrate.
If the phone still won't boot after that, there might be a deeper hardware issue. The Z Fold 7's mainboard or battery connector can sometimes come loose after a drop. A service center can check that for you.
