When your POCO X7 Pro's microphone stops picking up your voice, it can turn simple tasks into a hassle. Calls become one-sided, voice notes are silent, and voice commands just won't work. The good news is, this is often a software or settings hiccup you can fix yourself.

It is worth running a online mic test before working through the steps below. The live waveform makes it obvious whether the microphone is picking up sound at all.

Let's start by figuring out exactly which microphone is acting up. Your POCO X7 Pro has a few of them. The primary one for calls and voice commands is at the bottom, next to the USB-C port. There's also one at the top for noise cancellation during calls, and others near the camera for video recording.

Test Your Microphones First

Open your voice recorder app, often called "Recorder" or "Voice Recorder" on Xiaomi/HyperOS devices. Tap record, speak normally for about 10 seconds, and then play it back. Is your voice clear, or is it muffled, crackly, or completely absent?

Next, make a quick test call to a friend or family member and ask if they can hear you. Try both the regular phone speaker and the speakerphone, as they use different microphones. If the problem is only in one app, like WhatsApp or Google Meet, that's a big clue it's an app-specific issue.

1. Check for Physical Blockages

Take a close look at the small grilles at the bottom of your phone, right beside the charging port. This is the main microphone. Pocket lint, dust, or even a small bit of debris from a case can easily get lodged in there.

Gently brush the area with a soft, dry toothbrush or use a can of compressed air held upright to blow out any loose particles. Be very careful not to push anything further in. Also, check the top earpiece grille for any blockages.

2. Remove Your Phone Case

Some cases, especially rugged or poorly designed ones, can partially cover the microphone holes. I've seen this happen more often than you'd think. Take the case off completely and run the voice recorder test again.

If the microphone works without the case, you've found your culprit. You might need to trim a bit of material from the case opening or consider using a different one.

3. Disconnect Bluetooth Accessories

If you have wireless earbuds, headphones, or a smartwatch connected, your phone might be routing all audio through them. This includes the microphone input for calls and recordings.

Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel and tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it off. Now test your phone's built-in microphone again. If this fixes it, you can go into your Bluetooth settings later and adjust device preferences.

4. Force Restart Your POCO X7 Pro

A simple reboot clears out temporary system glitches that can affect hardware like the microphone. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, or until you see the POCO or HyperOS logo appear on the screen.

This forces the phone to shut down and start fresh. It's different from a normal restart and often resolves odd, intermittent issues. Give it a minute to fully boot up, then test the mic.

5. Check App Permissions in HyperOS

Android apps, especially on HyperOS, need explicit permission to use your microphone. If you denied this permission accidentally or an update reset it, the app will act like the mic is broken.

Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Find the app giving you trouble (like Phone, Recorder, or WhatsApp) and tap on it. Select Permissions and make sure Microphone is set to "Allow" or "Allow only while using the app."

6. Clear the App's Cache and Data

If a specific app is the problem, its stored data might be corrupted. Going back to the app's info page in Settings > Apps > Manage apps, tap on Storage usage.

First, tap Clear cache. This is safe and won't delete your login info or chats. If the problem persists, you can try Clear data. Just be warned, this will reset the app to its freshly installed state, so you may need to log back in.

7. Update Your Apps and System

Outdated app software is a common cause of microphone conflicts. Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device > Updates available. Update all apps, especially communication ones.

Next, check for a system update. Xiaomi and POCO frequently release updates that fix bugs. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version and tap "Check for updates." If an update is there, install it. The large 6000mAh battery in your X7 Pro means you can do this without worrying about running out of juice mid-update.

8. Check for Audio Enhancements or Modes

Some system audio features can interfere. Open your Settings and search for "Audio" or "Sound." Look for options like "Audio effects," "Mi Sound," or "Sound quality.

Try disabling any enhancement features temporarily to see if they're causing a conflict. Also, if you have Game Turbo enabled, check its settings. Sometimes gaming modes prioritize performance and can alter audio input behavior.

9. Reset All Settings

This is a more thorough step that resets all your system settings (like Wi-Fi passwords, ringtones, and display brightness) back to default without touching your personal photos, messages, or apps.

Go to Settings > About phone > Factory reset. Here, select Reset all settings (reset phone settings). Confirm and enter your lock screen PIN if asked. After the phone reboots, you'll need to reconfigure your preferences, but it can clear out a misconfigured setting causing the mic issue.

10. Boot into Safe Mode

Safe mode temporarily disables all third-party apps you've installed. If the microphone works perfectly in Safe Mode, you know a downloaded app is causing the conflict.

To enter Safe Mode, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, press and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK." Test your microphone with the built-in recorder or a call. To exit, just restart your phone normally.
