XCharge North America and Energy Plus will deploy one of the nation's largest battery-backed EV charging depots in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood. The 88-space facility, scheduled to open in Q2 2026, combines 44 GridLink charging units with 9.46 megawatt-hours of on-site energy storage.
The Williamsburg site will operate under Energy Plus' Eplug brand, targeting dense urban environments where grid strain and high electricity costs challenge conventional charging infrastructure. Each GridLink unit delivers up to 300kW of DC fast charging capacity while integrating battery storage to buffer peak demand periods.
Bidirectional charging technology enables the depot to draw electricity during off-peak hours and discharge during high-demand periods, reducing grid stress while maintaining charging availability. This approach lowers operational costs and improves local energy resilience in a city where grid capacity remains a persistent concern.
Beyond individual EV owners, the facility will support commercial fleet operations with fast turnarounds and predictable scheduling. Renderings show the charging hub positioned beneath the Williamsburg Bridge, optimizing urban space while providing convenient access.

The Brooklyn project serves as a blueprint for similar urban charging hubs across major US cities. Future Eplug locations will offer transparent pricing, loyalty programs with preferred rates, and partnerships with nearby businesses to maintain strong local presence.
The deployment supports New York City's broader energy resiliency goals by adding decentralized storage and bidirectional power flow at neighborhood level. As urban EV adoption accelerates, battery-backed charging infrastructure addresses both grid constraints and driver accessibility concerns in high-density environments. This project follows similar large-scale energy infrastructure investments like OpenAI and SoftBank's $1 billion investment in SB Energy for AI data centers, highlighting the growing importance of resilient energy systems for both transportation and technology sectors.
