A recent report by Counterpoint Research revealed the top-selling mobile phones in the U.S. and China, presenting both expected frontrunners and some surprises. In the U.S., the iPhone 15 Pro Max claimed the top spot, capturing a significant 24% market share. It was followed by the iPhone 15 Pro with 16% and the iPhone 15 with 13% market share, collectively dominating the top three positions with a total market share of 53%. 

Samsung's mid-range Galaxy A14 5G made an unexpected appearance in the U.S. rankings. The device, priced attractively and equipped with a 6.6-inch LCD display, MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, and a 50MP primary camera. Galaxy A14 5G's surprising market performance was attributed to its combination of competitive specs and affordable pricing, ranging from $79.88 to $199.99.

Interestingly, Huawei's recent resurgence in the Chinese market with  the Mate 60 flagship series and Kirin 9000S SoC did not translate to dominance, as Apple's iPhone models occupied three out of the top five spots. The iPhone 15 Pro Max led the charts with a 5% market share in China, followed by Huawei's Mate 60 Pro at 4%. The iPhone 15 Pro and the standard iPhone 15 also made significant strides in the Chinese market, indicating strong demand for Apple's latest offerings.

The absence of  the iPhone 15 Plus on both lists has raised speculation, pointing towards consumer preferences for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and other models in the series.

These notable trends have sparked discussions about the ongoing battle for dominance in the mobile phone market, with Apple's continued strong performance and Huawei's resurgence setting the stage for an intriguing landscape in the coming year.
