T-Mobile customers can get Apple's new budget iPhone 17e for free starting today, part of an aggressive carrier push to lock in subscribers with a five-year price guarantee. The offer extends to the M4-powered iPad Air as well, with both devices available through pre-order ahead of their March 11 retail launch.

Customers who trade in eligible devices on T-Mobile's Experience More or Go5G Plus plans receive the iPhone 17e "on Us" through 24 monthly bill credits covering the full $599 retail price. New subscribers switching to T-Mobile can secure the device without any trade-in requirement on most plans, while Metro by T-Mobile offers $250 off for customers porting numbers to $50-plus monthly plans.

The iPhone 17e doubles its predecessor's base storage to 256GB while maintaining the same $599 starting price, positioning it as Apple's most affordable entry in the iPhone 17 family. It features MagSafe capabilities for the first time in Apple's budget line, along with Ceramic Shield 2 durability and satellite connectivity features including Emergency SOS.

Alongside the phone promotion, T-Mobile will carry the updated iPad Air powered by Apple's M4 chip, which delivers up to 30 percent faster performance than previous M3 models according to Apple specifications. The tablet maintains its $599 starting price for the 11-inch model and $799 for the 13-inch version, both featuring Wi-Fi 7 support through Apple's N1 chip and compatibility with accessories like Apple Pencil Pro.

Pre-orders for both devices opened March 4 with general availability scheduled for March 11 across T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, and UScellular retail channels. The carrier cites independent analysis showing families have saved over $3,700 compared to major competitors over the past five years.

T-Mobile's promotion arrives as wireless carriers face increasing customer churn, with a recent survey finding 58 percent of major carrier subscribers considering switching providers due to rising prices. Mobile virtual network operators offering cheaper alternatives have grown into significant competition, with one-third of traditional carrier customers planning to switch within the next year according to industry data.

The free device offers require customers to pay a $35 activation fee per device along with applicable taxes. Bill credits apply over two years, and customers who cancel service early forfeit remaining credits while owing any outstanding device balance.
