Capcom's latest survival horror entry has shattered every previous Resident Evil record on Steam within hours of its release today. Resident Evil Requiem reached 310,782 concurrent players on Valve's platform, significantly surpassing the franchise's previous high mark.

The game launched at 5am GMT on February 27 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. By comparison, the Resident Evil 4 remake managed a lifetime peak of 168,191 concurrent users when it released in March 2023.

Resident Evil Village attracted 106,631 players at its height in 2021.

Requiem's explosive debut places it as the fourth most-played title on Steam currently, trailing only live service giants Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG: Battlegrounds. The single-player horror game sits ahead of established multiplayer titles like Apex Legends and Arc Raiders.

Strong pre-launch interest signaled this success. Capcom reported over one million Steam wishlists mere weeks after announcing the title in June 2025. That number reportedly grew to 2.5 million by February 10th according to analytics firm Alinea Analytics.

The game represents Capcom's first major third-party simultaneous release on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside current-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. This multi-platform strategy appears to have paid dividends for what could become one of the publisher's fastest-selling titles.

Resident Evil remains Capcom's highest-selling franchise overall. The Resident Evil 2 remake holds the series sales record with 16.8 million copies sold as of December 2025, while the Resident Evil 4 remake moved 12.2 million units since its March 2023 launch.

Early technical issues haven't dampened player enthusiasm according to reports from some Valve platform users experiencing crashes. These problems may be addressed through upcoming patches as weekend player counts potentially climb higher.
