Anticipation is building as Huawei prepares to launch its groundbreaking P70 series, featuring the P70, P70 Pro, and Pro Art models, in the first half of 2024. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, forecasts a game-changing trajectory for Huawei, predicting a substantial shift in the smartphone landscape.
Suppliers Largan and Sunny Optical, with the former holding a slightly higher supply share, are positioned to reap the rewards of the P70 series' significant shipment growth during the traditional off-season.
Kuo's insights suggest that the P70 series, with upgraded camera specifications and Huawei's Kirin chips, could witness a staggering year-on-year growth of approximately 230%, reaching an impressive 13–15 million units, provided the strong demand for smartphones persists into the first half of 2024. Even during a restocking demand slowdown, shipments are still expected to grow significantly by 150% YoY, reaching 10–12 million units.
Key to the P70 series' appeal is its cutting-edge camera technology. The P70 adopts a 5P lens (1/3.6-inch), while the P70 Pro and P70 Art elevate the experience with a 6P lens (1/2.5-inch). Notably, the P70 Art's wide camera stands out with a 1/1-inch CIS and a hybrid 1G6P lens, showcasing Huawei's commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone photography. The use of molded glass in the 1G6P lens, supplied by Largan and Sunny Optical, adds a premium touch and signals a potential industry standard shift.
As Ming-Chi Kuo's predictions align with Huawei's return to the high-end smartphone market, coupled with enhanced camera capabilities and robust shipment growth, the P70 series is poised to initiate a significant optical upgrade cycle in high-end smartphones, ushering in a new era of mobile photography.
