Google expanded Fitbit's Gemini-powered AI health coach to iPhone users this week, ending the feature's Android exclusivity. The service also launched in five new countries.

The public preview now reaches iOS users in the US and both iOS and Android subscribers in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. Fitbit Premium members in those regions can access the conversational health assistant immediately.

Originally launched in October 2025 for US Android users, the AI coach uses Google's Gemini models to analyze health metrics and create personalized workout plans. It functions as a fitness trainer, sleep coach, and wellness advisor through natural language conversations.

Users begin with a 5-10 minute onboarding chat about fitness goals, sleep habits, and training preferences. The AI then generates customized workout routines that adjust based on real-time data and injuries.

It tracks body temperature, blood oxygen, and heart rate metrics.

Fitbit Premium costs $9.99 monthly or $79.99 annually. The expansion requires an active subscription and compatible devices including Pixel Watch 3 and 4, Fitbit Charge 6, Inspire 3, Versa 4, and Sense 2. iPhone users access the feature through the Fitbit app, which pulls data from Apple's Health app.

Google says the rollout will continue "over the next few weeks" as part of a public preview phase. User feedback will shape the final version, with an integrated feedback tool available for testers. The company hasn't confirmed an end date for the preview period.

The expansion coincides with reports that Apple is scaling back its own AI health plans. Bloomberg sources indicate Apple reduced development of an "AI doctor" feature planned for iOS 27. Instead, Apple reportedly will integrate smaller health tools individually within its existing Health app.

Fitbit's AI coach supports questions like "I have 30 minutes for a workout… What do you recommend?" and "How can I improve my VO2 max?"

"The most effective automated health coach I've used."

PCMag's Andrew Gebhart tested the feature over five weeks, calling it that and noting that "while not perfect, the Google personal health coach is ahead of the pack."

The service remains in English and requires users to be 18 or older. Google says user data won't be used for advertising purposes.

The company developed the coach with input from health experts and a consumer advisory panel.

iPhone users can sign up through the Today screen or Account Settings within the Fitbit iOS app. Android users in the new markets gain access immediately through the existing Fitbit app interface.
