CD Projekt Red accidentally leaked its own Witcher 3 expansion on Wednesday via the RED Launcher, forcing the studio to confirm Songs of the Past a full day ahead of schedule.

"We originally planned to make this big reveal during our REDstreams tomorrow, but let's say we found something we didn't yet expect on RED Launcher," CD Projekt said in a statement. The expansion arrives in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, 12 years after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched and 11 years after its last DLC, Blood and Wine. CD Projekt is co-developing the project with Fool's Theory, a Polish studio comprised of industry veterans who previously worked on the original game.

Fool's Theory is also developing the remake of the first Witcher title.

Songs of the Past returns players to the role of Geralt of Rivia for a new adventure, marking a deliberate contrast with The Witcher 4, where Ciri takes over as protagonist. The title hints at unresolved threads from Geralt's past, though CD Projekt has not confirmed story details.

Previous leaks suggested the DLC could bridge the narrative gap between The Wild Hunt and the upcoming sequel.

CD Projekt also updated the game's system requirements for the expansion, citing the need "to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward." The new minimum spec calls for an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400 CPU, an NVIDIA GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT GPU, 12GB of RAM, and 70GB of SSD storage on Windows 11. The announcement comes during a packed period for CD Projekt. The Witcher 4 remains in production with a target of 2027 at the earliest, part of a six-year roadmap that also includes The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6. The studio has ruled out additional Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, with co-CEO Michał Nowakowski suggesting Cyberpunk 2 won't arrive until at least 2030.

More details on Songs of the Past are expected in late summer 2026. The Blood and Wine anniversary stream, originally intended as the reveal stage, proceeds as planned on May 28.
