Capcom confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds is in development for Nintendo Switch 2 on Friday, ending months of speculation that began with a datamine late last year.
"Monster Hunter Wilds is currently in development for Nintendo Switch 2," the publisher said in a developer message video on the Monster Hunter YouTube channel. "We'll have more info to share, including the release date, in the future." The confirmation landed the same day Capcom revealed Wilds' first major expansion, Ascendance, at Summer Game Fest 2026. The expansion launches in 2027 and was described as "a massive expansion" in its trailer.
Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto previously confirmed development of a large-scale expansion in February, promising summer details.
Ascendance takes hunters to islands in the sky, introducing explosive new abilities, the return of Elder Dragons, and Master Rank content. Tsujimoto said the expansion's scale matches Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.
Wilds originally launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in February 2025. The Switch 2 port was widely expected.
Capcom has been one of Nintendo's strongest third-party partners for the new console, having already released Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess on Switch 2, alongside announced ports for modern Resident Evil titles, the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and the next Mega Man game.
Speaking to VGC in September, the Resident Evil Requiem team said it was "surprised" by how smoothly porting to Switch 2 went, suggesting Capcom's internal engine work is paying off across its entire lineup. A release date for the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds has not been announced.
